Great stats. The bigger question is when he makes the all star game, will this team dole out 290M for a super max for him to stay in green? I hope and have hoped to see both Tatum and Brown stay with the Celtics until retirement or another Pierce/KG trade with the Nets at the end.

He needs to make All-NBA to be eligible by the rules for the supermax.  All-Star won’t cut it.  But if he gets All-NBA, yes, the Celtics will present him a supermax extension offer.

Yeah if they can offer the supermax I’ll be shocked if they don’t.

If they do, they can offer it as an extension.   So they can avoid Brown becoming a FA.

An interesting philosophical take would be who would Jaylen Brown be without Jayson Tatum?

And would he be this good without Tatum? And I think the answer is no.

I continue to be amazed by Brown's shooting touch 15' and in - just beautiful.

Now, can we see an annual chart of his turnovers.
At times, he has improved and pulls up short with his great little jumper instead of forcing his dribble.
But he still forces way too much and in bunches.

Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce

Sigh, if only JB could get a handle on his handles. Works hard to get a decent run going and then quickly reverts to his sloppy self.

This. Whenever JB does his best impression of Kobe, we lose. Whenever he does his impression of Scottie Pippen, we win. Come on, Jaylen.

We probably all agree with this sentiment.

It is looking increasingly likely both he and Tatum will be making All-NBA teams for the next few years and will qualify for super max deals, so keeping them both, along with the teammates they will need around them for this to be worth it, will produce some wild cap numbers.
Celtics would be foolish to not pony up for whatever they can given JB.

No doubt. That’s not the worry: the worry is that JB walks like Kyrie did even though we can offer more than anybody else.

Exactly

The general theme on the forum seems to be that Jaylen is extremely disrespected, but I believe most people opinions are in one of two camps;

- Jaylen’s skills (though elite) are somewhat redundant next to an MVP caliber wing like Tatum.

- Are fearful that Jaylen will walk in free agency because he believes he’s in Tatum’s shadow.

Another nice stat, Ed. TP.

Thank you.

I just think it’s amazing the steady level of progress that Jaylen has made over his NBA career.

Coaches and GM’s will almost always temper fan’s expectations of a young player because they know progress is never linear, but Jaylen seems to contradict that notion.

He has an exceptional work ethic. You didn't mention his free throw shooting, but the progress there has also been nearly linear, from grade-D to grade-A. That's one part of the game that is most affected by just plain hard work.

Last summer there was a surprising number of fans who wanted to trade him for Kevin Durant. I think I understand the reasoning there, but I think the Celtics brass were wise to keep the big picture in view - if they even seriously considered a deal like that.
'I was proud of Marcus Smart. He did a great job of keeping us together. He might not get credit for this game, but the pace that he played at, and his playcalling, some of the plays that he called were great. We obviously have to rely on him, so I’m definitely looking forward to Marcus leading this team in that role.' - Jaylen Brown, January 2021

I do think a lot of people are overly critical of a guy who’s currently got the inside track on 3d team all NBA. It’s not “he’s great, I really want him to stay, how can we make that happen”; it’s some version of “his handles stink and he’s selfish and he’s just going to leave anyway”. These are folks who seem to dislike him as a person and a player (so much talk about how he’s “Kyrie lite”) and since they want to get rid of him they’ll say he’s probably going to leave us anyway so let’s trade him.

couldn't agree more.  TP

he's a keeper.  he keeps getting better every year.  need to resign him to what it takes to get it done.
