Davante Adams has been charged with misdemeanor assault for shoving a credentialed media worker.

Adams was cited for an "intentional, overt act" that inflicted "bodily injury," according to court records released Wednesday.

There's no real criminal risk there.  Misdemeanor assault -- especially for a shove -- is almost always pled down, and even if convicted it's generally a fine.

But, I'm sure this photographer has already lawyered up and his medical bills are already growing rapidly.  Next step will be hiring a high-priced psychiatrist for the humiliation of being shoved on national TV.

For the NFL, it will be interesting to see if this is a fine or a suspension.  If he shoved another player who fell down, it's either nothing or a fine.  If it were a fan who ran on to the field, nothing or a fine (doubtful).  A fan in the stands?  Certainly a suspension.  Where does a photographer fall?  It probably depends upon the level of publicity.

I see a couple of things here.  I think it is perfectly fine for the "booth spotter" to have the authority to say he saw something (a stumble or wobble or whatever) and have that trigger a mandatory evaluation by the head trauma specialist that is on the sidelines.  At that point though, the booth spotter should have no further say.  It should be the Doctors that are evaluating the player that make the determination.

I find it hard to believe that this went back up to the spotter in the booth to decide after the Doctors had cleared him.  If it is true, that he was cleared by the Doctors but still not allowed back in because he had been "spotted", that does not sound right.  Based on what I saw with the replay, I thought he did wobble and that sending him to the tent for an evaluation was the right thing to do.  But if the neurologist cleared him, and the team Doctors agreed, he should be able to go back in.  The team does not have to put him back in, but he should be available.
the Miami Herald article says pretty clearly that the examining doctors cleared him but because the booth spotter said he stumbled and ruled that ataxia he couldn't go back in

Quote
Bridgewater then exited the medical tent and headed to the locker room with the consultant. Several minutes later, Bridgewater was ruled out for the remainder of the game due to the ATC Booth Spotter saying they saw Bridgewater stumble. This kept him out even though he passed the concussion evaluation and wasn’t showing signs of a concussion.

Yeah, that is what I was responding to.  I may not know or understand the full story.  Tua was "spotted" but then cleared and put back in the game.  That didn't end well and it was widely criticized.  Bridgewater was spotted, cleared, but not put back in the game.  Now that is being criticized.  At the heart of this is that even a neurologist can't seem to be able to tell if there is head/brain injury or not by simply examining a patient in the tent.  So what do you do?  How do you know if it is safe to put a player back in?

It is true that if this goes too far, there won't be any players left on the field.  Everyone who gets up slowly will be placed in the protocol.  But no one seems to be able to determine what is too far in terms of player safety.  This is a very serious issue for the NFL.  Potentially an existential threat to the game.
If the exam led to the conclusion he had ataxia he should have remained out.  Tua would have obviously been diagnosed with ataxia by the treating doctor under the new protocol and would have been kept out.  I want the actual doctor to make that call though and not some trainer in a booth.  Trainer in booth can call down and say hey, check that guy out he may have stumbled, but the doctor should make all diagnosis and decisions.  That appears to not have happened here.

Bodily injury? Did some finger nail polish get scratched? People just suck, because most are looking for an easy payday. Show some [dang] pride and don't go crying to the police if someone pushes you.

The national humiliation has nothing to do with the push being shown on TV. It's the fact that this cameraman went to the cops and will probably sue. This guy made himself the joke.

NFLPA needs a new policy for this.  No journalist allowed in the walkway to the tunnel.  They need to protect the players.

I agree there.  Guys can't be darting in front of the players at the last minute, because that could easily cause injury.  At the very least, photographers should have to stay put.

At the same time, you can't just push other human beings down because you're frustrated after a tough loss.  There was no need for it, other than an emotional response that led to a physical response.

He obviously shouldn't have pushed him, but with the way the photographer was walking, he pretty much initiated the contact and was inviting it.  He never should have been there to begin with.  You want to protect players, get people out of the walkway that have no business being there.

For a guy who supposedly had no symptoms of a  concussion Sunday, it seems strange that Bridgewater won't be playing Sunday for Miami because he is still in.....wait for it..... concussion protocols.

Dolphins quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is still showing no concussion symptoms after a hit against the Jets on Sunday caused him to leave the game, but he remains in the concussion protocol after the NFL’s revised concussion rules.

So basically it all just boils down to the non-doctor, a mile away, in the booth and never examining him, diagnosing him with ataxia.

So long as non-doctor stays at a holiday inn express the night before diagnosis.

I really didn't think I could see a worse football game than the Colts/Broncos last week, but the first half tonight is certainly a contender.

This has been some of the worst offence I've seen in a while. Whole season has been down in that regard.

Feel bad for Fields. He was getting hammered all game. I’m surprised he didn’t get injured.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

I’m with you Mo, even if a doctor has a doubt, let’s just mash their brains in. They are paid enough. Enough of this wussy stuff, I remember the snap of Joe theismans leg from LT. let’s get back to the way the game was meant to be played.
