Just to put it in perspective JD Davison won't be rookie of the year. He's a raw 19 year old kid on a two way contract that was the 53rd pick. I do think that he had a nice first summer league game. He can do a lot of things. He has a lot of work to do.

"Pro debut: All eyes were on Davison, and not just because of his hair. The Alabama product was the Celtics’ lone draft pick this season at No. 53. He got some good news pregame after signing a two-way contract with the team. He showed flashes, and while he was just 3-for-11 from the field, still showed off some composed play. Davison finished with 10 points, six rebounds, six assists, two steals and three blocks. Davison looked like he tweaked an injury late, but he said postgame it wasn’t anything serious."

I think we saw why the raw talent is tantalizing, but also that he's a long way off.

I think he could have earned himself a lot more money by going back to college for a year.  He's got first round athletic attributes.

I think both those things are true but I also think he's better suited to the pro game in general. I don't think anyone in the summer league this year sniffs the court for the Celtics this year.

Yup , he needed another year in college at least .  I liked his handle on the ball .  Faster decision maker than I expected .Seemed  to be  looking for the right play.    Those older wiser guards on the team were far more polished .

If he stayed another year we wouldn't have had a chance to draft him.

I'm not so sure that college game in general prepares you for an NBA career. It's almost like it's two different sports. Plus the coach is usually more interested in keeping his talent pipeline filled so he keeps his job.

I think he's right where he needs to be - in a two way contract with a team committed to developing him.

Really happy with what Brad is doing with the point guard situation.  We had one of the worst rotations in the NBA what seems like yesterday.

Now it's Smart, Brogdon,  White, Prichard,  JD Davidson

If you look at that group four of them are very good on defense and each one brings something different to the table.

I'd rate our PG situation now an 8.7 if Brogdon stays healthy.  Still don't have the elite player, but man are we deep now.

Love how our roster can now develop a high upside pick like Davidson and even if he contributes nothing this year,  doesn't affect the team at all. Great gamble.

I can’t remover who coined the phrase but JD is a great example of a “pre draft” pick meaning you draft him a year earlier then he should be in the draft. Had he stayed in I think he would have gone 25-35 next draft.

 10 points 6boards 6 dimes 3 blocks 2 swipes

So cool to have an athletic freak at PG. I can't believe how he blocks shots at 6'1" it's Dwayne wade like

Yeah, the potential for the Celtics is great.  At #53, I’m all in.

From the athlete’s perspective, though, I think he should have waited a year before declaring.

If he even plays significant minutes I would be surprised. He’s very raw. But the good thing is they don’t need him to be rookie of the year or play significant minutes. He was picked at 53 so people need to have realistic expectations for him. He will spend most of his time in Maine and that’s the right place for him this year.

...late in the second round. Has the physical tools. Needs to learn how to score. If he does, it was grand larceny.
