When we are winning by 20 plus points, Tatum complains a lot less.

So I guess we just have to focus on destroying the other team each game.

I think it is because he doesn't get the same calls as Giannis and/or Butler. I have to admit he gets some other minor calls but there are certainly some blatant fouls that they just ignore and I can understand his frustration. He does need to calm down though and take even the blatant no calls in stride just like Smart does.

It was evident that Ime talked to Tatum about that before game 2. He did a lot less complaining. There was one play where he thought he got fouled and at the dead ball he turned to the ref and was about to complain but then he just pulled his own arm back and over his head to stop himself. It was funny.

GWill has definitely been crying a lot. He's not entitled to cry yet.

Shank feels the Cs were crying a lot this game too. Can't really say I disagree with him. Whenever the team starts to complain about calls it never ends well.

Quote
As ever, there was way too much attention focused on the officials. The Celtics spent all night complaining about the zebras and the raucous crowd joined in the wayward notion that the Heat only won because of the referees.

No. Your team came home and gave up 39 points in the first quarter. Your team got outscored 20-2 in the paint in the first. Your team shot 30 free throws to their 14. Your team was careless with the ball. Your team’s best player submitted a virtual no-show while their team won without having their best player (Jimmy Butler, right knee inflammation) for the second half. And it was your team that got slapped with a technical and a flagrant foul in the final minute after the outcome was decided.

“I did a [expletive] job taking care of the basketball,’’ admitted Brown, before adding, “They let a lot of stuff go tonight. I don’t make excuses. I got to do better.’’

But they let a lot of stuff go.

Stop crying about officials, Celtics. You are probably more talented than these guys. Go find some composure before Game 4. Ime Udoka and Al Horford no doubt know this to be true.

So what exactly happened to Tatum there? It looked pretty bad but he eventually returned to the game. Was it a stinger?

I watched the replay of the moment when he was "writhing" in pain, eyes closed and covering his face with his hands. Then for a second his eyes opened, and gone was the facial expression that would have showed his pain.

He just plainly faked it. And for him to do this when the team was down and he wasn't playing well  just showed a lack of leadership mentality on his part. Grow up, young man!

I also replayed this a few times and this looks like what happened:

Tatum had the ball stolen from him by Oladipo. He tried to grab back at the ball with his right arm but was unsuccessful. He fell backwards and used his left arm to break his fall. He was seated on the ground and reached over with his left hand to his right shoulder. The ball was passed to Strus who went for the dunk but was rejected by Brown. The ball fell to Horford who passed it back the other way to GWill, who pulled up for a 3 9 seconds later while Tatum was still on the ground holding his shoulder. As Tatum turned his head to watch, the shot rimmed out and Brown saved it out of bounds to Smart, who also saved it out of bounds and passed it back to Brown, around the 12 second mark. At this point Tatum lay back and started to writhe around on the ground holding his right shoulder, while Brown made a layup and the foul. Then he's writhing around for a while as the trainers attend to him. He opens his eyes for a brief moment at 0:40 then closes them again.

Here's the video replay, I'm just describing what happened on it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wis6DE5c4m0

Now one of two things could have happened:

1. Tatum lost the ball, he was sitting on the floor frustrated because he thought the Heat were going to score on the turnover, but Brown came up with the block on Strus and the ball was quickly moved the other way and GWill took the 3 which missed. Maybe Tatum didn't want to jump up off the ground when he was holding his shoulder so he started writhing on the ground while the play continued and eventually Brown made the shot. Kind of like how soccer players pretend they are injured for at least the first minute after they go to ground.

Or...

2. He genuinely suffered a stinger and genuinely couldn't get up and needed time to recover.

I suspect what happened is 1, he didn't want to make it obvious he was embellishing an injury. I think it did hurt but he probably could have got up. Just didn't want to because he thought Strus was going to make the shot so why run.  Because if he was really hurt he wouldn't have looked back at the basket when GWill shot, and I would imagine he would have started writhing in pain as soon as he fell, rather than sit there for 10 sec before doing so. Then because he didn't get up when GWill made the shot, it would have looked weird to suddenly jump up.

But I will give him the benefit of the doubt that it was 2. His teammates will be the best judge of whether it was genuine or not.

I'm leaning towards he just wanted to run from the game, Ben Simmons style. Funny how his teammates ignored him and kept playing. Maybe they've seen this before?

Jayson has explained what happened with his shoulder injury.

Quote
“My neck got caught in a weird position,” Tatum said. “Obviously, I went down. I felt some pain and discomfort in my neck and down my arm. Went and got it checked on. I started to gain some feeling back, got it checked by the doctors and decided to give it a go.”

This is a ridiculous assumption to make. Jimmy butler went to the locker room but apparently the knee isn’t serious and he’s probably back in game 2. Was he faking it too? When Paul Pierce went off in a wheelchair was he faking it?

If you got hit in the neck and felt tingling or whatever it was you’d wanna make sure you didn’t damage anything, right?

Never understand the way folks just invent conclusions from the extremely limited perspective we have on who they are and what it’s like.

I don't think Tatum was faking it, but my mom was watching and she actually thought he did lol. When you look at the replay it didn't look like anything happened to his right shoulder (in fact he landed hard on his left one) but also when they showed him going into the locker he was actually moving his right shoulder and rotating it fine it seemed.

It was very likely a stinger that just needed a few minutes and thankfully he avoided serious injury, but tbh I'm also not surprised people think he could have faked it. My mom admittedly isn't a huge basketball person but when she was watching she actually thought out loud that Tatum faked it because he turned it over and I was like "huh??"

I don't think he meant to fake it...it probably did sting, and he was just sitting on the ground because he thought Strus was going to score. He didn't and the ball came back and at that point he wasn't ready to get up yet and then the play continued and it looked bad him just sitting there so he starting writhing around because it started to look bad that he wasn't joining in

In real time I didn't think twice of any embellishment...it was only when I replayed it a few times that I noticed a few things looked suss. Like he didn't start writhing around till 15 seconds after he fell. But it's all conjecture, as I said I'm happy to give him the benefit of the doubt. It's all immaterial now anyway. But you can bet it's going to be brought up on Felger and Mazz and they're going to get stuck into him.
