Target Kelly Olynk to bring back.

He’s a good stretch to add to the big man rotation and on a reasonable short contract.

For a 2nd?

That’s a good question. What type of deal would Detroit be looking for? Would, say, a lottery protected first be worth giving up for a rotational role player big, if you are a contending team?

I still view Neismith as having potential to be a rotation player, though he obviously still has a ways to go but I wouldn’t give up on him yet. I’d rather burn a 20 something 1st rounder

I wouldn't think Detroit would care about giving up Olynyk.  I can't imagine he is part of their long term or even short term plan.  I am sure he would be useful off the bench.  Not a great defender but a decent change of pace type player.  He shot 39% from 3 in HOU and 33% in DET, his last year in MIA 32%, which would we get?

TP. That’s exactly what I was thinking, essentially a change of pace type big for us depending on the matchup, and he is familiar with the organization and a few of our current guys.

What does DET accept. We can take back salary with the TPE but we must send something out.

We don't have to send anything of value.  Nik Stauskas' deal that doesn't guarantee until mid-July would be legal.  That said, I don't think Olynyk would work out with the C's this time around, unless we're just looking for salary to aggregate in a future deal.

That’s another positive variable in all this, essentially extending that TPE into a contract that can be moved, pushing that salary slot.

Olynk is a solid player in a specific role/matchup

Josh Richardson makes a lot of sense to me.  He knows the system and would be great depth.

Have we not seen how valuable Theis can be since we got him back ?
We don't need to get smaller either - need more size if you ask me.

I think Pritchard could turn out similar to Grant Williams, meaning he develops and improves each season and becomes a valuable role player, which we also need. Our bench scoring is still relatively weak. Along with size, we need a killer, knock-down, catch & shoot guy.

This team looks to be on the edge of some serious title contention years - if the owners don't spend now, we need new owners.

Hopefully - though he seems to be yet another in a long line of college shooters we have drafted who lost their shot in the pros.
I can't say we haven't tried to find shooters - it's been an amazing string of failures .......
RJ Hunter, James Young, PJ Dozier, Carsen Edwards, Aaron Nesmith. I'm probably forgetting a couple.
Is this normal attrition for college shooters in the NBA ?

I like Aaron Gordon, only because he keeps us big

I dunno...Looking at all these suggestions...Kelly Olynyk...Maybe Carmelo ain't so bad if he is willing to play any defense

Can't see Olynyk being brought on to split time with Theis as the third center at $13 million, would just be too much money tied up in bigs. More likely to be a guard or forward. Not a comprehensive list, and not all of them are sure to be available, but guys like Josh Hart, Josh Richardson, Doug McDermott, Terrence Ross, or Kelly Oubre seem likelier targets. That's assuming the budget is there though.

I'd be talking to teams that have repeater tax concerns. There might be a handful of teams willing to part with a decent role player because of how much it could save on their tax bill. Given the lack of assets, this might be the way to go.

Yeah, I loved his energy while he was here. I liked the upgrade to White because of how much better the offense flowed but Richardson is a good guy to have around.
