Horford & Smart for Collins & Bogdan?? Works in trade machine

I wouldn't do it personally

Why?

It would hurt this year, but long term leave us in a better situation.

Yeah long term I could see it. Personally, I like Collins and his age certainly fits the youth timeline, but I also think fans overrate him.

I have to imagine too that in a trade like that, the C's may have to give up 1 or even 2 future 1st rounders

I would add a #1, gladly.

Some folks think it would hurt to lose Smart, but he'd be replaced by Bogs, who is a really nice player.

Last year the guy was amazing.  16.4 points / 3.6 rebounds / 3.3 assists / 43.8% 3PT% / 90.9% FT% / .602 eFG% / .616 TS%

I feel like he's the SG version of Hayward.
Last year was very much an outlier of a year for him shooting wise. He is currently having a shooting and scoring year that is more in line with what he usually shoots 42/36/80 with a TS% of 54.4%.

While that's very average, it's still better than Smart, though Smart is better in every other aspect of the game. I would probably still make the trade, but I wouldn't expect Bogs to have shooting years like last year. Years like this year is what should be expected.

I think you like Bogs a lot more than I do.  I see him as a guy who had a career year at 28 last year, but is otherwise an average shooter with average defense.  That’s not a bad player, but he’s not a difference maker at either end.  I was really surprised Atlanta gave him the deal they did, and I’m not surprised they’d try to upgrade from him this season.

Average defense, yes, but I'd say he's a good shooter.  38.5% for his career.  He's a productive scorer, passer and rebounder for his position.

If the proposal was Bogs for Smart, at this point you turn it down if for no reason other than chemistry and morale.  But if Collins was included for Horford?  That would be wild value for us.

Sorry if I'm late on this, but one I just saw on Twitter was:

"Sources: Another deal that has been discussed is a three-team trade that would send Dennis Schröder to the Lakers, Cam Reddish to the Celtics, and Talen Horton-Tucker and a 2nd-round pick to the Knicks. - @ChrisRobertsNBA"

Personally, I like Cam so wouldn't mind this at all!

Reddish could be a good three and D play. Can Ime get him to buy into what we're doing?

It's a trade that balances both teams.

The truth is somewhere in between.  This year is his worst shooting year.  His career averages are:  44% / 38.5% / 81.5%, .536 eFG% / .560 TS%

Those numbers are above average for a shooter.

I’m up and down on Reddish, but for that price (Schröder and maybe a 2nd), I’d be in on it.  Although I’d also say there’s a good chance Romeo beats Reddish out for the minutes.  Reddish’ net rating and on-off are abominable for being on teams hovering around .500.  Will Udoka be the coach to get through to him where three others (four going back to Duke) haven’t?

If Collins was griping about not getting enough shots in ATL he’s probably not going to feel better in Boston’s offense.  Then again, maybe he DOES get more action with the C’s simply because teams have to focus on the Jays.

Man I would jump all over that one. Too good to be true.

He's never griped about shots.  He's rumored to have expressed frustration about Trey Young running the offense.

John Collins, last I checked, was *19th* in time of possession on the Hawks.  He averages less time with the ball per touch than Grant Williams.

Collins would get a lot of open shots.

Word first started making the rounds last night, and discussion of a framework where Kristaps Porzingis potentially heads to Toronto has since circulated around NBA front offices. There's of course mutual interest in bringing Goran Dragic to Dallas. Unclear how serious talks are.

I would too.

This is a win-win-win trade I think makes a lot of sense

ATL
Out: Collins
In: Smart, Grant

BOS
Out: Smart, Richardson
In: Collins

DET
Out: Grant
In: Richardson (likely to a 4th team like LAL), draft assets

That is a great deal all around. If you send Horford to Detroit instead of Richardson, the C's could also get Bogdanovic.

I’d feel really bad for Schroder if he ended up with the Lakers. That’s a mean twist of fate. Reddish to the Celtics looks ok though. Wonder why the Knicks even traded for him in the first place.

True-shooting+ measures the difference between his shooting and the league average, where 100 is league average.  His career number is 100.  His five seasons have been 100, 95, 100, 108, and 97.  His career efG+ is 102.  He's been a league average shooter four years out of five.  Last year was the outlier.

I love the randos on Twitter making stuff up.

Chris Roberts also says:

Quote
Hearing the Celtics are keen on upgrading their roster today. They believe they have a real shot at winning the Eastern Conference and agree the best way to do that is to trade Dennis Schröder. The Bucks are in deep talks with the Celtics centered around Donte DiVincenzo.

Quote
Sources: Other teams that Celtics have had discussions with are the Nets for Joe Harris and the Knicks for Cam Reddish. These talks have been preliminary but could lead somewhere in the coming hours. A James Harden trade could be a huge factor.

Quote
The Lakers and Knicks have had discussions on a trade revolving around Cam Reddish and Russell Westbrook, per source.
