Jordan Poole out for the Warriors. Dang, if he was put in protocols due to close contact and not because he has Covid, why couldn't he have gone out to dinner in the North End with Steph last night.

There’s a lot of outbreaks going on in all sports. Omicron appears to be a lot more transmissible than delta. It’s the reality of the world we live in today, nobody is immune  :-\

I had to get tested today because a contact tested positive…our bench players are going to get some time over the next few months.  Shame we didn’t play better when we had a softer schedule but thems the breaks.

They’ve sequenced omnicron, it’s actually far less transmissible. Delta is the super transmissible variant.

So frustrating. We need to just accept this as a new norm and move on. This is out of control.

You have a source for this by chance? Everything I've read about this variant so far is implying it's 2-5x more transmissible than Delta, but less severe.  So an uptick in cases is expected.

Also, not sure if it's just a typo, but it's omicron (Oh Mi Cron).  I've seen a lot of people mistype it, and heard a lot of people mispronounce it.

I'd also be curious to see the data that says that omicron is less transmissible, because all the studies I've seen suggest otherwise:

Quote
How contagious is it? More data is needed to definitively answer this question, but early data suggests that Omicron is more transmissible than Delta and it will likely become the predominant variant in most places. What is less known is exactly how much more transmissible it is than Delta, what makes it more transmissible, and how quickly it will rise to dominance.

https://www.yalemedicine.org/news/covid-19-variants-of-concern-omicron

Quote
Exponential growth is a dizzying thing. In the week to December 8th Britain saw 536 new cases of covid-19 ascribed to the Omicron variant, less than 0.5% of the number caused by the dominant Delta variant. But the week before there had been only 32 cases of Omicron—and by December 14th the case number was over 10,000. Omicron looks set to become the country’s dominant strain in terms of cases before advent calendars run out of windows.

https://www.economist.com/international/2021/12/18/the-omicron-variant-advances-at-an-incredible-rate

Quote
The omicron variant multiplies 70 times faster in the human bronchial tubes than the initial COVID-19 infection or the delta variant, according to a new study from the University of Hong Kong.

The lightning-fast spread within people may explain why the variant may transmit faster among humans than previous versions, the researchers say. Their study also showed the omicron infection in the lung is significantly lower than the original SARS-CoV-2, which may be an indicator of lower disease severity. The research is currently under peer review for publication.

Obviously the variant only appeared a month or two ago so there's probably not enough data to be conclusive...but I believe the working hypothesis based on preliminary studies is that its more transmissible but less virulent than delta. But we don't know enough about virulence at this point.

My question is why is this only hitting the East teams. Chicago, nets, Philly, Charlotte all have had biggest outbreaks. Bucks and Celtics now getting hit. Feel like Lebron missed a game and no teams were decimated in west. Is it just cause of weather?

Hey, your problems are your problems. Those are the ones you have to deal with. Best of luck.

It's rarely as simple as we think but it could be just as simple as the East teams have played each other more often than they have played West teams. I'm sure if you contact traced it all there's a good possibility that it would be the cause. Just looking at the last few team outbreaks:

Celtics - played the Bucks on Dec 13
Bucks - played Cavs on Dec 6 and the Hornets on Dec 1
Cavs - played Bulls on Dec 8
Bulls - played Hornets on Nov 29 and Brooklyn Dec 4

That's just the last few teams.

Here's the updated Covid Dashboard. 451 player days missed due to Covid protocols for the East and 120 for the West.

So JRich back in Covid protocols again eh? That was quick.

Quote
On Saturday night, after erupting for a season-high 27 points in the Celtics’ 114-107 win over the Knicks, guard Josh Richardson talked about how glad he was to be back after missing two games recently because of a positive COVID-19 test.

But that return was ultimately fleeting. On Sunday night, the Celtics announced Richardson was reentering COVID-19 protocols and would miss Monday’s game against the 76ers, along with the other six players who tested positive this week: Al Horford, Grant Williams, Juancho Hernangomez, Jabari Parker, Sam Hauser, and Brodric Thomas.

Guard Dennis Schröder (non-COVID illness) and forwards Romeo Langford (neck pain) and Jayson Tatum (ankle) are questionable.

For Richardson, who has declined to answer questions this season about whether he has been vaccinated, it’s a sudden setback considering he just returned from his weeklong COVID-19-related absence on Friday.

Richardson said he never developed coronavirus symptoms. He eventually flew home on a commercial jet, and after registering a pair of negative tests he was cleared to return for Friday night’s game against the Warriors.

He scored 15 points in that contest and was then dominant against the Knicks on Saturday, lifting Boston’s severely shorthanded group.

Since Richardson felt no effects from COVID last week, he said the mini break essentially gave him a chance to recharge, and he appeared to be one of the most energized and effective players on the court in both games this weekend.

“I mean, the game mentally is tough,” Richardson said. “So having one off day is huge, but being able to have five off days is definitely different. It’s good for my legs. I like to try to take care of my knees. I think that’s a big factor in my effect on the game. Just being professional, using time off and not just wasting it I think is a big thing.”

Less than 24 hours after making those statements, though, Richardson found himself back in COVID-19 protocol.

So is that 7 in Covid plus maybe no Schroeder or Tatum? Is it a canceled game or do we have to sign g league guys? This is becoming a complete joke right now.

Yeesh.  Are the Bucks still short a ton of guys too?  Hopefully so, since they're the ones who started this outbreak on the C's.
