Dennis Schroder might not be long for the Boston Celtics.

According to Shams Charania of The Stadium and Athletic, "Rival teams expect the Celtics to be open to talks around guard Schroder, who inked a one-year deal with Boston in the offseason but has had a strong season that likely prices him out of a potential re-signing."

Career highlight: 1973-74 championship, Boston Celtics

Career lowlight: traded for a washing machine

Eh, that sounds more like potential playoff teams might be interested in Schröder if he were available, not that the Celtics are, or will, looking to trade him.

It also doesn’t say much (actually nothing) about what the market would be if he were available.

Lots of if, but, and maybe, and not much substance.

Shams is just repeating what everybody knows: C's can't sign him for what he will command in the market.

I mean... of course?  Schroder was always a short-term mercenary, and we aren't good enough to have delusions of a deep playoff run with his help.  Always made more sense to move him if he plays well enough to return decent value in a trade.

This makes sense, but you also have to weigh the impact this could have with the morale of the Jays considering that Schroder is the third leading scoring on the team.

Trading Schroder for a minor pick is basically saying "Hey Jayson & Jaylen -- we know this is a tough season, but you have to go out and play even more minutes  / score even more buckets just to keep this mediocre team afloat."

Why wouldn't they be open to trading him?

It's time to shop assets and Schroder is the most obvious one since he's gone at the end of the year anyway.

Lol, Jaylen and Jayson would be pumped if Schroder was traded. That would mean more opportunities to increase their scoring, which will help with their precious All Star and All-NBA votes, or NBA 2K rating.

Yup. C's should have gone transition year and asked Jays to shoot 30 times each while the young guys develop. Instead they resigned a bunch of players and brought in vets.

One benefit to trading Schröder now would be to allow PP an opportunity to get his shot back as the backup pg to Smart.  The Cs would have a better feel as to his future with the team.

What a lazy rumor by Shams.  This has been true since the day Schröder signed.  If the C’s are looking like a contender at the deadline, Schröder will be here.  If they aren’t, they’ll get what they can for him.  At 13-14, it’s looking like the latter right now, but they’ll take the next 6-8 weeks to come to a conclusion.

I don't know if that's true. I think we've seen plenty of instances where star players get fed up having to carry a huge burden every night.  Especially when the team isn't winning games anyway.

Some variation on "Do I have to score 40 points every night for us to win?"

Sure, some young guys love getting to take a million shots and pad their stats. But eventually guys get tired of that, since they know they'll be blamed for every loss irrespective of how many points they score.

Can easily see Schroder going to the Knicks. Shaky guards, lots of picks Thibs can't wait to offload, some cap space this summer to keep / re-sign Denis.
