Let's face it, we aren't good enough. If we continue to underachieve, I'd fully expect us to make a move at the trade deadline. Who would be your target(s) if you were Brad? Please, let's keep it at least semi-realistic. No Luka, Giannis, Jokic, etc. I'll go first.

Target #1: Ben Simmons
  • His value has hit rock bottom. We should always try to buy low and sell high.
  • People complain he's a non shooter. No big deal if we use him close to the basket. Plenty of bigs are non shooters. Imagine Simmons playing off the ball in the half court, setting picks on the perimeter and then rolling hard to the basket. Can't do the same thing in Philly cause he's sharing the floor with a dominant low post scorer in Embiid.
  • Imo, Simmons is the most versatile/switchable defender in the NBA. He'd be literally the perfect fit in our switch-heavy defensive system.
  • He perfectly fits our time window as well. Tatum, Brown and Simmons are about the same age.
Target #2: Pascal Siakam
  • Wondering whether the emergence of Scottie Barnes makes Siakam a bit expendable.
  • Siakam would be a great fit on the C's. He's happy to play off the ball in the half court. He's a menace in the open court. He's a willing passer. Needless to say, he's a terrific defender.
  • The Raps desperately need a long-term solution at Center. It seems that Achiuwa ain't the answer to their problem. We can offer them Timelord (among other assets).

I also believe we need a pass-first, low-usage, oversized PG. I'd love us to go after Tyrese Haliburton, but I don't think he's a realistic target. Not to mention, I believe he's overrated right now. I view him as a role player, cause he cannot consistently create his own shot. I bet the Kings view him as a future all-star. I guess I'd be OK with Tyus Jones or TJ McConnell (although neither of them is oversized). If we acquire Simmons, then I'd start Pritchard.

Both are too expensive at the moment.   If the Celtics young players had shown more by now, maybe.

I think the biggest needs that match the way the Celtics are playing is a larger PF that can play switching defense and slide over and be a C.   And of course a shooter that can be on the floor.   (Pritchard size limits him with the switching and Nesmith doesn't have the coaches trust)

So, a clone of Horford?

I'm very much not a fan, but Marvin Bagley III is riding pine in Sacramento with Harrison Barnes playing in front of him and getting off to the best season of his career.

Maybe, Bagley just needs a change of scenery. I don't know, but he should come cheap and has very real upside. But could Ime and his staff handle and develop him properly? Not sure about that.

I think attaining him is also way more "realistic" than getting Simmons or Siakam.

No because Horford can do so much more then that.   This needs to be someone off the bench because despite the decent to average play the Grant Williams is providing, I think an option with more size off the bench would be useful especially when Horford or Rob Williams misses a game.

Think a platoon situation off the bench with Grant.

Does Christian Wood become available if Houston starts winning too much? He is much older than their future core and in the way of Sengun, who they are sky high on. Does Boston have the parts to land him?

Does Jerami Grant get tired of losing in Detroit this year?

We got all our future firsts intact. I'm assuming we're trading away a couple of firsts (if not 3), plus Smart, Timelord, prospects and/or salary filler(s). I'd rather we keep Horford despite him being 35 and massively overpaid, but Wyc is cheap. Not sure whether he'd be willing to pay 4 max/close-to-max contracts. Maybe he gives the go-ahead if we target a 3rd All-Star like Simmons/Siakam.

I bet plenty of posters would argue this is an overpay for Simmons. The way I see it, if we can somehow add Simmons while keeping both the Jays, it's a no-brainer.

I'd love both of them! TPs! Wood is definitely an intriguing target, although I believe he's at his best when playing at Center. As things stand right now, we are very deep at the Center position.

C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

How exactly did you get those trades approved through an up to date trade machine since Timelord has a poison pill provision and Smart, Richardson and Schroder all are currently ineligible to be traded due to signing new contracts

And the last thing this team needs is a guy who needs the ball in his hands to be effective on offense but can't shoot outside of 10 feet.

If there is a guy on Philly I want(besides Embiid) who would make this team instantly better, it's Seth Curry, not Simmons.

Also, Simmons being traded here isn't realistic, like Birdman said. Philly ain't sending Ben to Boston

It happens.  They essentially traded Tatum and Sac pick (Langford) for Fultz.

draft pick trades areni where near the same thing.

But they aren't trading Simmons to Boston because Boston isn't trading then Tatum or Brown and no other trade makes sense without a 3rd and maybe 4th team and those trades almost never work
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Unless we’re willing to give up multiple first round picks and swaps, no trade will make any substantive difference.  And why would you mortgage the future on this team?

of the names kicked around as trade targets so far this season, I could see Bagley as a possible 'get'.  He's not getting time in Sac yet has potential to be a contributing PF for us if we bring him in.  He shouldn't cost much either.  I'd consider opening up a Sac deal to see if Heild is available as well.  Would provide the third scorer we need that's an actual threat to put up 20+ points in a game.   If we could get those two, I wouldn't object to using Smart and/or Richardson as the basis for a deal.

I don't see the others as good fits (Simmons) or reasonably affordable (Siakim, Wood, Grant).
