Have to admit, I’m not a fan of the Celtics being used as a training ground for a new coach to cut his teeth.

But the Celtics felt sooooo good for being progressive and hiring one of the long-ignored black assistants in the league.
Please don't tell me we hired this guy to fall in line politically.

I can't believe everyone is already throwing Ime under the bus.  This is only the 2nd game of the season.  The first we nearly won in double overtime without Al Horford.  Raptors whipped our butts tonight. It happens.  The Heat whipped the world champ Bucks last night.  We played about our worst, Jaylen was awful and Jayson was below average.

Nice balanced and honest post-game interview by J-Rich.

tonight's hot takes:
- glad to have Al back.  only one that looked good on the floor tonight.
- first game showed some heart fighting to get back into the game.  tonight, no fight at all.
- had serious concerns with our PG rotation of Smart, Schroder and Pritchard.  haven't seen anything so far to allay those concerns
- suspected that the team would have major problems winning any night that either Brown or Tatum weren't having a good shooting game since there's no one else on the roster that's a legit threat to put up 20 points.  this game pointed that out drastically
- small ball with Grant as the 5 is not a viable option when the other team is playing a legit-sized PF and C that are crashing the boards.  just cannot use that.  what's the deal with not using the bigs on the bench when Grant isn't cutting it as a center?
- Ime seems to be in over his head right now.  hope this is just a blip but if he doesn't get it together soon, I think he needs to go in favor of a coach that's a bit more of a hard-ass to push this team to play well and play hard.
- Houston should be an easy win but I'm not so certain at this point.  if C's are struggling going into the trade deadline, C's need to be sellers and jettison the vet players for assets - preferably creating some cap space and acquiring picks.  Richardson, Schroder and especially Smart will hopefully bring some decent returns from teams looking to improve for a playoff run.
I agree with all of this. If this does go off the rails, the last thing you try before blowing the roster up is bring in someone with a 'heavy hand' and see what happens.  What's Scott Skiles up to these days?

Everyone has gone crazy, it seems. I’m tempted to make a remark about the Boston Sports Fan, but you can’t keep saying the same things every week.

This team has good leadership - including from its head coach. Now is when he starts to earn his contract.

The real test of a team is when adversity happens. Step forward and lead: Marcus, Jaylen, Al.

Chill everyone.
'I was proud of Marcus Smart. He did a great job of keeping us together. He might not get credit for this game, but the pace that he played at, and his playcalling, some of the plays that he called were great. We obviously have to rely on him, so I’m definitely looking forward to Marcus leading this team in that role.' - Jaylen Brown, January 2021

i think the concerns are legitimate and they’re not due to the losses. the way we lost both games and the coaching decisions by ime are the real concerns. he’s not making in-game adjustments, his personnel rotations are atrocious and he’s not making changes when the rotations are clearly not working, and he’s not working the refs at all. the team doesn’t seem prepared for games and i cannot seem to decipher the offensive game plan. the C’s don’t seem to be exploiting mismatches or riding the hot hand.

these are just a few examples but they’re very concerning, even for a first year coach. with an embarrassing lack of effort from the “stars” tonight, i would expect ime to chew some serious ass and remove guys from the game when they’re not hustling and playing atrociously. but nope, high-fives all around!

very interesting you didn’t mention jayson. sincere question: was it unintentional or do you not see JT as a leader?

He leads in a different way. He doesn’t speak up as much. You need guys who hold people accountable. That’s not Jayson so much.

lol..you guys ARE joking, right?  The coach has not even received his luggage from the bellhop yet not to talk about unpacking, and here you are ready to move on? Did I miss something?

only because i think it’s pretty clear what we’re witnessing. i played for a guy in college who was similar to ime. great coaching pedigree, former player, well liked by the players, solid X’s & O’s guy on paper, but couldn’t command the room or push the star players. he’d also “vapor lock” (what a few guys on the team called it) during games and couldn’t/wouldn’t make timely in-game adjustments.

that said, i sincerely hope i’m wrong and ime quickly grows into the job.

A big part of the negativity is how unexpected tonite was. Home opener, tough game 1 loss that they gave away, playing for this new coach that the two J's so strongly endorsed - you would have thought they would come out full of fight and effort. It was the opposite.
The Four Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce

Why are the players talking about effort just two games into the season?  :o That doesn’t bode well going forward considering the coaches biggest attribute was to motivate them. I assume people have low expectations for this team?
