Westbrook will be easier for them to trade next year given he is expiring.  If they take on long term money on a bad contract, they can probably move off of him.  Not sure what those contracts will be, but there is always someone looking to clear cap space earlier that would then just buy Westbrook out or just send him home.

Klutch Sports Group, the agency associated with Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James, is reportedly unhappy with Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka.

Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report offered some insight into the matter.

“According to multiple NBA sources, Klutch is not happy with Pelinka,” Pincus wrote. “The sentiment has long percolated, but it reached a boil when Pelinka refused to trade [Russell] Westbrook and a future first-round pick (likely 2027) for Houston Rockets guard and Klutch client John Wall.”

There was a rumor that the Lakers could have done Wall + Wood for Westbrook + #1.  I'm not sure what the other pieces were, if there's any validity at all.  I hope it's true, just so things turn even more toxic in LA between management, players and fans.

I’m enjoying the lakers being a real mess. If they somehow fall out of the play in and give away their lottery pick it will make me very happy.

I'd rather have it stay in the 11-14 range so it goes to Memphis rather than being top 10 and going to New Orleans.

I hope it’s #1 overall.  I don’t care who has it so long as it isn’t the Lakers.

The Lakers won't have it regardless.  Either NOP or Memphis will get it.

I never heard the Wood part of it.  I can't imagine they would have turned that down, as Wood would have been an excellent fit for them.

If the Lakers are turning down deals because they would add $15 million in luxury tax, then I never expect the C’s to pay the luxury tax again.

I had not heard that rumor either.  If they could have gotten Wall and Wood for Westbrook, that adds $13M this season (prorated but fully taxed) and next.  I don't know what condition Wall is in but I think he is a smart enough player that he would be able to figure out a role with the team and that he would be more help to them than Westbrook.  Westbrook does not appear as though he is going to adjust his game at all.  Russ is going to do what Russ does.

So yes, this does appear to be about money for the Lakers, unless they don't think Wall can play at all.  Even though this trade would appear make the Lakers better on the court, it is not certain and not certain how much.  I can understand management/ownership hesitating on this.  I am not sure how good Wood would be on the Lakers.  I just don't know his game well enough.  But this does seem like a trade the Lakers should make.

I see Wall and Westbrook as probably a wash but you get to add what you hope is a useful, impactful player in Wood for $13.6M and a future pick.  Why does Houston want to do this?  What do they get out of it?  Are they really trying to "get out of" the Wood contract (for a 2027 pick)?   Why are they willing to throw in Wood as part of a swap of overpriced, over the hill players that they don't want or need?

Maybe the Celtics should offer a future pick for Wood and bring him in via a TPE, in the off season.

The Lakers are struggling financially.  Remember they had to give that PPP money back 😎

26yrs old.  Could be a backup PG.  36.9% career 3pt.

The Nets are releasing Jevon Carter to clear a roster spot for Goran Dragic, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

This is a tough break for Carter, who had shown flashes of potential at times throughout the season. He even had a game this month where he drilled seven three-pointers in a loss to the Celtics. He should get picked up by another team, but even if he does, he is not a candidate in fantasy basketball.

Unfortunately he would actually help the 76ers. Milton and Ford have been absolutely terrible shooters most of the year, and both are also pretty poor defensively.

Sure seems to me if the Sixers wanted him, the Sixers would have simply asked for him to be included in the trade.
