It's a shame our best player is as much of a Kobe acolyte as he but good luck finding a young NBA player who isn't. The league leaned full into the cult of Kobe and now, here we are.
Pretty much. I’ve never understood it, either. He was a very good player, but not the best player of his era. That’s Duncan, followed by Shaq for his early years, Lebron for his latter ones.
I’ve always thought of Kobe as being on the same tier as Dr. J.
Seems unjustified. Of course Cs fans can be Kobe haters but you've got to give the guy a lot more credit. Kobe is top-10 all time (as is Duncan and LeBron, but not Shaq). Dr. J is not even close to that level.
What makes Kobe a top-ten player?
I think the fact that so many people will rank Kobe ahead of Shaq says a lot about how much the plot has been lost on those two guys. I think Shaq was obviously the greater of the two players but the narrative has become Shaq was lazy and Kobe was the consummate winner so it doesn't matter that Kobe single-handedly cost his team a championship, something no one else in the top 25 conversation has ever done.
