It wouldn’t surprise me if PBS eventually moves Kris Dunn and/or Bruno Fernando, if that’s the case, would anyone from this list improve our team?

A guy I like as a 3rd stringer but there isn't room for him on the roster as it stands today is Meyers Leonard. 7 footer who can really shoot the ball. Can play some at both the four and five. Gives us an extra big body who not only doesn't hurt spacing but improves it.

However, the PF and C positions are clogged as is. So no roster spot available for such a player.

I know Stevens & Udoka recently commented on how they want veterans on the team, so perhaps Leonard might be an option if Fernando is moved.

Apparently Leonard is doing a big PR push indicating he’s changed and learned from his mistakes, so it looks like he really want to get back to the NBA.

I would assume it’d be up to Wyc, if Leonard is an option going forward.

In no way does Meyers Leonard’s basketball ability warrant the PR headache his signing would bring, to the Celtics or any other team.

I don't see any of these options improving the Celtics in any meaningful way.

Clogged at PF, we still have Grant who could be improved on very easily.  We all know it won't happen because of his contact.

But Markannen, and Milsap would be definite upgrades.

Milsap had an instagram the other day were he talked about hard work and rewards with a shamrock on it, Horford commented with a crossed fingers, and a couple other things(can't remember what ). but he'd be a solid vet. But we'd have to make some moves for a wing to make it really work.

There’s so many variables with getting Lauri Markkanen.

Udoka is a defensive minded coach, so I doubt he’s a huge Markkanen fan.

If the Celtics brought him in he’d mostly have to play centre because he can’t stay in front of guys like Durant, Giannis, Harris, Collins, so he’d be a 6th man at best. Is he going to be happy with that role?

Given we’d have to do a sign-and-trade what do the C’s give up? We’ve got the TPE for salary matching but reports are the Bulls wanted Maxi Kleber from the Mavs, we don’t really have anything like that to give up.

What’s the salary Lauri wants? It could be out of the Celtics acceptable range given they let Fournier walk.

Millsap would Be a huge upgrade as a backup PF. Parker is a question mark and somewhat of a project player. Grant is limited in his abilities And I don’t expect him to get any better. I’d feel a lot better about the depth at the PF position by adding Paul. I’m also hoping the C’s keep Fernando. He’s super young, has good size and athleticism. Would like to see how Dunn looks before cutting him as well.I don’t see any 3rd string PG in the list above that are a clear upgrade.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

I don't see us clogged at PF at all... unless we're talking 3rd stringers and below LOL.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism

TP for the mention. This blew up on Cs Reddit the other day, but I haven't seen it here. We went hard for him last year and this seems almost too obvious, so I will just assume Milsap will be on our opening day roster unless he signs somewhere else. Note: I realize we would need to clear at least one roster spot (not including Parker), and we'd have to get even more creative if we want to duck the tax.

Those sounds like achievable things in order to add a guy like Milsap.

Millsap makes sense from more than one point of view, even though he’s clearly a declining player - Boston doesn’t need him to play starter’s minutes. Above all he’s a great team defender. He’s like a middle linebacker, seeing the play develop and calling it out for his teammates.

The roster is filling up at this point. People are starting to figure out that Jabari isn’t coming back.  But I hold out hope for Millsap.
'I was proud of Marcus Smart. He did a great job of keeping us together. He might not get credit for this game, but the pace that he played at, and his playcalling, some of the plays that he called were great. We obviously have to rely on him, so I’m definitely looking forward to Marcus leading this team in that role.' - Jaylen Brown, January 2021

I'd love us to sign Millsap! Problem is, we cannot afford him unless we somehow dump Dunn's(?) salary for cap relief. We do not have access to the bi-annual cause we used our taxpayer MLE. We do not have access to the remaining non-taxpayer MLE cause we our above the apron. I mean, if Millsap were willing to sign for the minimum, I bet he would have already joined a contender.

For the gazillionth time, we cannot sign Markkanen. The Celtics cannot make a sign and trade cause we have used the taxpayer MLE. Here's the exact quote from Larry Coon's CBA FAQ:

Quote from: Larry Coon's CBA FAQ
The team cannot receive a player in a sign-and-trade if they have used the Taxpayer Mid-Level exception (see question number 25) that season.
