If Golden State cannot get good value in return for Wiseman, they will not trade him. They are better off developing him and letting his value grow.

No need to rush into a bad trade because of a bad marketplace.

They will be patient and play the long game.

Actually, there is a need to rush if there is a trade that helps them contend. If you can't count on Wiseman in the playoffs, and that seems likely, then you need players you can count on. Green-Curry-Thompson are all on the wrong side of 30. They don't have a lot of prime years remaining, and they could contend right now, but they need a supporting cast to do so.

In other words, who would you rather try to win a playoff game with in 21-22: Marcus Smart and Kevin Love or James Wiseman and Andrew Wiggins and a rookie at 7?

I would definitely pick Marcus Smart and Kevin Love, as I think the vast majority of NBA teams would if they had the Warriors' roster construction.

Cavs Out: Love, Sexton
Cavs In: Wiggins, 7th (Davion Mitchell?)
Why? Reports are that the Cavs have Sexton on the trading block, and Love has been on the trading block since he signed his contract. They pair those two together to get a wing scorer which balances their roster, and they get an additional draft pick and pick Davion Mitchell, who projects to pair nicely as a distributer and defender next to Garland. And they take Mobley at 3. New starting lineup: Mitchell-Garland-Wiggins-Mobley-Allen with Osman, Okoro, and Nance Jr. off the bench.

Warriors Out: Wiggins, Wiseman, 7th (Davion Mitchell?)
Warriors In: Love, Smart, future Cs second
This seems like an obvious trade for the Warriors, as they have only a couple years left to really contend. In this trade, they get two playoff tested veterans that fit really nicely in their system. Marcus Smart immediately fills the Andre Igoudala role next to Curry and Thompson, and Kevin Love gives some intelligent spacing and scoring like Barnes did. The Warriors resign Oubre and go into next season with a solid top 7.

Celtics Out: Smart, future Cs second
Celtics In: Sexton, Wiseman
I don't love this trade for the Cs, mainly because it doesn't give us players ready now to compete for a championship, but the value is undeniable. I think the Warriors got a year to to wait to make a decision when Klay got injured, but now they have to decide whether or not Wiseman can help them win a championship, and they can't wait around for the 7th pick to be ready either. Now, a team like the Cs with playoff tested veterans have the Warriors where they want them, and could potentially extract good value. I'm not sure what Wiseman becomes, but there's no denying that he is one of the most physically gifted players in the NBA, and he definitely has some good skills. On top of that, they get a guard that puts pressure on opposing defenses at all times as a scorer. He's probably not the perfect fit, but he's like a Terry Rozier-style player next to the Js which takes pressure off of them.
GSW says Hell No.  Boston and Cleveland would jump all over it.

to even get GSW to think about it, both Cleveland and Boston would have to kick in first rounders at a minimum.  Cleveland probably would have to kick in 2

Warriors are getting robbed. That is a trade package they will put out there for a top 15-20 player in the league. Not Marcus Smart.

I don't necessarily disagree. I'm just saying there may not be a top 15-20 player available. I think they were hoping there would be. If there is, then I agree its no contest that they should trade for them instead.

But this trade is based on a different assumption--that there isn't one available and the Warriors want to contend this year, not wait on Wiggins, Wiseman, and the 7th pick to become players that can help them.

Like I said before, put together another trade package that is clearly better for a player that actually may be available. Because there are only three that may be available:

Simmons - the Sixers won't want a trade package of Wiggins, rookies and Wiseman. They will want a guard.

Beal - is he available or not? I can never tell. He'd be great offensively on that team, but the Warriors do need a couple defenders on that roster and Beal isn't one of them.

Towns - is he available or not? I can never tell. This is an ideal trade partner for them, as long as Green doesn't go Jimmy Butler on Towns. But I don't think Towns is really available right now.

What other trade is there out there for that trade package? Maybe Steven Adams and Eric Bledsoe, but does that really give you the versatility you want in the playoffs? Their top 5 players would have two shooters and three non-shooters? Is that a team you want to play in crunch time?

Seriously, the Warriors don't have a ton of options out there, and they really can't afford to waste another year of Thompson-Curry-Green's prime hoping that raw talents like Wiseman and Wiggins develop into guys you can count on in the playoffs.

Terrible for Warriors. No way they do this.

Show me a better deal for 7, Wiggins, and wiseman that is actually out there, because the sixers don’t want wiseman and Wiggins for Simmons, and the wizards and wolves aren’t trading Beal or towns.

That trade makes the warriors a better team and contender for the next few seasons.

The warriors are out of time and there aren’t a lot of better veterans that fit their roster out there.

We could just deal with GS -  give them Smart, TT, R Will, Fournier S&T and two 1sts. That would be better for them than Love, who is worthless. They play Draymond at the 4. They might have to throw in some filler, but they'd be getting some centers, so maybe they include Looney.

That feels like a massive overpay from our standpoint?

Why?

This trade would give us a talented future center, a #7 that could give us our future power forward or point guard, and a big wing that would allow us to play without a power forward if we wanted to go that route.

We wouldn't need TT or R Will if we had Wiseman. We wouldn't need Fournier if we had Wiggins. We wouldn't need Smart if we had Davion Mitchell. Or, we could go for Scotty Barnes or Franz Wagner instead, and find a bargain point for now. It would balance our roster.

I’ve seen some Celtics homer trades in my time, but dude this one takes the cake. We send out Marcus Smart who on any championship team is a bench/role player and a second round future pick for Wiseman (#2 pick) and Sexton who averaged 24 ppg last year?

Come on now...

Frame it correctly. I admit I think the Celtics get the best in the trade, but Sexton is a 24 ppg scorer on one of the worst teams in the league, and a player that apparently the team who has drafted him has already had enough of. A 24 ppg scorer on the Cavs is like an 16 ppg scorer on a good playoff team.

Second, Wiseman was a bit of a disappointment last year, and the Warriors cannot afford to wait around for him to be ready to contribute to playoff basketball at a high level. They may overpay a little, but that overpay puts them in a better position to contend for a championship and they still have their 14th pick.

Look at it from the Warriors perspective - who or what else are you hoping to realistically trade for with Wiggins, 7, and Wiseman? Two playoff starters seems like great value. Unless the Warriors realistically think they can get a big name like Simmons, Beal, or Towns this off-season, I don't think there is a better trade out there for them that gives them better pieces to contend for a title.

Look at it from the Cavs perspective - if they really are looking to get rid of Sexton, isn't getting off of Love's contract and getting a wing scorer who balances the roster, plus the 7th pick good value? Unless the Cavs think that Love, Sexton, and 3 can get them Simmons, Beal, or Towns, doesn't this trade really make sense if they are trying to get rid of Sexton before they have to pay him? They get off two players who apparently are not part of their future plans to get a decent scoring wing that balances their roster and the 7th pick?

I realize that Celtic fans are down on Marcus Smart, but good teams know his value. He'd be a great playoff contributer next to Thompson and Curry, filling the Andre Igoudala role at a high level. It's unclear if the Celtics see him as part of their future, but Marcus Smart has played in a lot of playoff games and contributed to wins. That value is worth more that Sexton on the last year of his rookie contract.

I also realize that NBA fans are down on Kevin Love, but the fact that he was chosen for USA basketball shows that smart basketball people still consider him a top-level player. Maybe he has played it safe for a few seasons on a lottery team to avoid big injuries, but I still think he can contribute to winning basketball, and I think his unselfishness, intelligence, and shooting would make the Warriors that much more dangerous. He'd be great in the high pick-and-roll when Green is off the court with Curry, and he can spread the floor for Green as a starter.
Frame it anyway you want and it is still a terrible deal for GSW.  Wiseman's season wasn't bad for a 19 year old rookie season.  They're much better off with Wiggins than old, oft injured Love.
Smart on an expiring contract isn't worth much.  Don't know why you included their #7 pick when it is still a bad trade for them if it was their #14 pick instead.

Smart doesn't have the value to get Sexton or Wiseman, let alone both.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner
