I think Thompson needs to go.  Ever since he joined the team....  the culture has gone down the toilet

maybe it has nothing to do with him.  But its been bad luck all around.

What are some realistic trade options?

To Wolves:  Thompson
To Celtics: Hernangomez

To Lakers: Thompson, Edwards,  two 2nds
To Celtics:  Kuzma

To Wolves:  Thompson, Smart
To Celtics: Rubio, Culver, Okogie

To Kings: Thompson, 2nd
To Celtics: Delon Wright

To Blazers:  Thompson, Smart,  future 1st
To Celtics:  Nurkic,  Jones Jr.

I like what someone else proposed:

TT and Smart to Charlotte for Rozier.

I think Rozier would be a phenomenal upgrade, and would fit right in to our team.  He has become a very efficient guard, and can defend quicker guards that Smart cannot.

Rozier
Brown
Fournier
Tatum
R Williams/A Horford

TT to Lakers (LeBron wants his buddy back for 1 more run)
To SA Kuzma (No idea about fit for SA but it's LA's only attractive asset)
To BOS White or Murray (Big PG depth for BOS.  Murray and White are redundant in SA and they may want to cash in on their value now)

It's a valid trade in the fanspo trade machine.  Not sure how reliable it is.

TR is better than he was, but it’s quite a stretch to call him “very efficient”. In his breakout season last year we was a little below league average as a scorer (TS .575) and not great as a passer (assist-TO was a little above 2:1 - for comparison, PP was 4:1 and higher usage guards i would consider “very efficient” are, at least, above 3:1).

While it’s harder to judge intangibles, my impression when he was with Boston was that he didn’t acknowledge better scorers around him and regularly used possessions when he should have passed the ball. That would not be a recipe for success in Boston as the Js mature into their primes.

Thompson + 2nd rounder (feel free to include Edwards/GWill) for Bobby Portis S&T.

Tristan has negative value and would probably have to include a second just to dump his salary. So combine with Smart or a first (or maybe Timelord if a team is high on him).

TT + Smart + 2d for Barnes

TT + Smart + 2022 1st for Lonzo ST

TT + TPE + 2022 1rst for Lowry ST

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism

If we somehow were able to trade TT (and pieces) and end up with Murray or even Kuzma, I would consider that extremely successful.

Not sure how many fantastic players there are in the <$10M range and would almost rather we just trade in him into cap space/a TPE, and then create our own TPE. I said it in another thread, but if the difference between us being in the tax or not is TT, then I'd rather move him and sign the best vet min guy we can. It's not like TT is 1st or even 2nd string at this point. It shouldn't really hurt our ceiling this season.

Of course the option to trade Smart/TT/young player/picks for a max guy is also intriguing - just not sure how reasonable that is.

I'll just mention this, we have NO REASON to dump Tristan (for financial reasons). The only reason to trade him would be because we decide to make moves that would hard cap us (moves that would improve our positions, so he'd be expendable) or to grab a better player than him, if we need to give more assets to get the player so be it.

But we have no real need to dump Tristan, only if hard cap becomes an issue.

At worst he's an expiring contract that sometimes has value for other teams in need of it, or for a team that needs big man depth and can't find any takers so a short deal is preferred.

Trade him and assets for Larry Nance Jr or Kyle Anderson.
Jaylen Brown for All-NBA

We have 3 reasons to dump his contract, not even counting tax consideration, just for the core of the team : we have 4 Bigs to play and reallisticly in modern NBA we can't combine any of them, Thompson eats our MLE as we need a PG or/and a PF and (maybe) TT was one locker room problem, as I and onther supects him to be the insider + behavior problems during seasons (and the eye test didn't his integration in the right team).

I think he is 99% a goner. So yes we need to trade him and I don't think his 9M contract will attract anyone until maybe the last days if trade deadline (but unlikely so we would have to cut him and lost MLE for nothing)

Rozier in the play in game this season...faltered badly.  It reminded me how he couldn't keep it together vs Cavs game 7

I would pass. Team does not need anymore score 1st players/shoot their way out of slumps

Trade him and assets for Larry Nance Jr or Kyle Anderson.

Cavs don't want him back

I can't see why Spurs would trade for him.... unless its the 2nds = really after

Thank you for telling us "we have NO REASON to dump Tristan" then being gracious enough to list some reasons.
