I was going to bring this up in another thread but thought it warranted its own discussion.

I am fairly comfortable with the Cs entering the next season starting Smart at PG with Pritchard as his primary backup. I hope that instead of signing a min vet the Cs bring Yam over this off-season and he earns the 3rd PG spot.

The wild card could be Point Langford, Stevens was forced to play him in what he called an "Evan Turner mode" last season in a loss to the Bulls. If he can effectively earn the 3rd PG role that will be a great wrinkle for this team. Like Smart he would give the Cs another switch everything PG. A shared role with Pritchard could also be a great way to further unlock Pritchards shooting. With Kemba shipped out I have high expectations for what Pritchard will provide off the ball.

Continuing that experiment will depend on the new coach and whether anyone else is brought in. Either Yam coming over or a trade for a point guard could derail it, but Langford is comfortable with the ball in his hands, has good size and switchable on defense. He needs to become a better passer though. Hopefully he’s going to work on that whether or not he’s going to work at point.

If Langford could grow into a legit point guard that would be phenomenal, but I think he’s pretty far away from that now. I wonder if he really has that in him, and how many reps they can afford to give him while they are trying to win.

Maybe next year they can try him as a secondary ballhandler, running some pick and rolls, to test his timing and court vision. But idk. I think, with rare exceptions, a raw PG needs a lot of reps and to make a lot of mistakes.

Brad in post game press conference mentioned that Romeo could be groomed to take on a PG role similar to Evan Turner, where he is surrounded by good shooters.  I think he has the ability to do that.

Sure hope both Langford and Nesmith hire dribbling (and passing?) coaches this summer. They are not very creative when handling the ball. You pretty much know what they are going to do almost every time they have the ball in their hands.

People need to completely scratch anything they've seen in regards to coaching from last year.  the new coach will come in and evaluate the talent and fill the roles they see the best fit.  Just because Brad tried something does not mean the new coach will.  New system, new coaching.

This has been talked about before:  https://hardwoodhoudini.com/2020/06/06/boston-celtics-langford-point-guard/

I think it's worth a look for sure.

It would be another year of a sub ideal bench if Romeo is your back up PG.

He averaged. .7 APG last year folks.  Even per 36 is a 1.7 APG.  That is very poor

So an emphatic  NO!

It's a nice luxury to have wings with PG skills...but I'd say Romeo as official back up PG is a mistake.

Get a true PG to back up our starting PG.

I know it would involve giving up a lot but I'd really like Suggs on this team, with PP as his backup.

second choice Davion Mitchell, third Jared Butler, 4th David Johnson (pick 45?)

I'm not suggesting Langford be used as the primary backup PG. I anticipate Smart starts and Pritchard is the backup. However I could see the team successfully playing Langford as the "PG" in a Langford, Fournier, Nesmith, Brown, and Horford lineup.

Langford is no point guard or hasn't shown/glimpse of it.  Its different now vs ball in his hands in college

He dribbled more in his first season in the NBA...but overall haven't seen him penetrate to the basket and make easy passes/spray the ball around.

Looks tentative with the ball

All is not well in the Israeli Basketball Premier League for Boston Celtics 2020 NBA draft stashed point guard prospect Yam Madar, it seems.

Per Israeli sports news outlet Sport5’s Omri Manheim, Madar has filed a lawsuit asking for arbitration regarding his release from playing for his current team in the Premier League — Hapoel Tel Aviv — at the end of the current season. Madar claims his team is demanding $700,000 for his release despite the terms of his current deal allegedly allowing him to leave free and clear at the end of this season. Hapoel Tel Aviv is reportedly disputing this account and interpretation.

So could Brad. I agree with you.

I'm ready to trade Langford and TT for a cheaper back-up center.

Romeo Langford has shown me nothing other than an ability to get injured and a rare flash on defense.
