To Magic: Smart, Thompson,  2021 1st pick (16th)
To Celtics: Harris, 2021 1st pick (8th)

With the 8th pick go with either Barnes or Wagner

I think Magic need better scorer/shooter next to Fultz than Marcus Smart. I doubt that he'd fit into their rebuild. Sell me from Magic POV.

This trade would have made sense to me for the Magic pre trade deadline. If they still had Vuc and Fournier I could see the logic in trading for Smart. Their current roster construction seems more likely to be going into a rebuilding/talent development season while Issac recovers. I'm not sure adding Smart and Thompson helps then more then the potential talent they can land at #8.

The Magic, regardless of a rebuild could use vets like Smart and Thompson..... to accelerate team development

Team has lots of interesting young talents. And will add another top 5 pick in this upcoming draft

8 to 16 may not mean much to them.  But it could help the Celts (needs)

this.

Magic are rebuilding (again).  Smart and TT wouldn't fit that plan nor would moving down in the draft

Yeah, to me, this trade seems upside-down.  The win now team is trading useful veterans to a rebuilding team that is giving up a valuable first round pick.

The only part of this trade that makes sense is ORL looking to dump Harris but they would want young players or picks, not Smart and Thompson.  Better to just ride out Harris' contract and keep their #8 pick.

Why are the Magic giving up a top 10 pick to get older?

the reality is...who is going to give up anything worthwhile for Harris??

I do agree 8th pick is probably a little rich

But if the Magic were interested in Smart at the trade deadline.   They may still be.... Someone who is a good defensive player/vet. That can provide vet presence for the rebuild

Next year is the last of Harris' contract, so the Magic are probably willing to let it just run out.

We should give Terrence Ross a look though
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

I like it, but I don't think the Magic would!

This is one of those rare trades where both teams lose.
