The Celtics need to move on from the score first point guard experiment. IT was great when he was here, and Kyrie was fine because the J’s weren’t ready. Walker mostly got in the way on offense and defense. A net negative.

Maybe I would think differently if it was Trae or Ja, but that only works if one of the J’s are gone.
I wouldn't put McCollum in the same boat. Guy has played off the ball most his career. Never asked to be the guy, just wants to win. Think he would known how to work with the Jays.Same would be said for Beal assuming the last few years hasn't poisoned him.

@Who and others that really feel CJ is a PG with huge upside would this deal make for sense for Blazers and C's
I don't think there is any deal that Boston can offer that makes sense for Portland outside of Jaylen / Tatum which would not make sense for Boston.

Portland needs a star talent coming back from a CJ McCollum trade to keep Lillard happy. A trade package bunch of role players & picks isn't going to cut it.

The only way that changes is if Portland decides to do a total rebuild and trade Lillard as well. Start over from zero. Then Boston can get in on a McCollum trade.

A little concerned about picking up another big long term contract for a guard, but I've always like McCollum.

I agree, CJ McCollum would be a great pick-up but we do not have what Portland needs, unless we include one of the J's --and that makes no sense for us.

If you ask me, Portland needs a defensive specialist in their backcourt and a secondary shot creator (assuming they'd no longer have CJ). Smart is one of the most versatile guard defenders in the NBA. Fournier can create shots for himself and/or for his teammates. He can even run the PnR a little bit. I really think Portland would at least listen to our offer.

Lillard - Smart - Fournier - Covington - Nurkic
6th man: Powell

If we are trading with Portland, the guy I want is Covington.

First, I don't see that we have what it takes to get McCollum without moving Brown, and that's a bad trade for Boston. And any trade without Brown, is a bad trade for Portland.

But we probably do have what it takes to get Covington and I think he would be an exceptional fit as a four in the Celtics starting lineup.

Understood. I don't think McCollum is good enough to get a  star wing back unless Blazers are adding multiple 1st picks in a deal but they won't have much value. I see the need for defense and a mobile big. TL and Smart fill in great for that need. They go with top 9 rotation of
Lillard, Smart, Powell, Covington, TL
Simmons, Jones, Anthony, Nurk

3 Team Trade

Boston - McCollum, Looney
Golden State - Smart, Thompson, G. Williams
Portland - Wiggins, Langford, 7

Something like that seemingly would make sense for all 3 teams.  Boston gets a legit 3rd star.  Golden State gets quality depth with a huge payroll reduction of over 10 million (and over 40 million the following year).  Portland gets a quality wing on a one year shorter contract, a young guy to look at, and a high draft pick to start restocking their future.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

I actually like this a lot! It would benefit all 3 teams involved..Best trade proposal I have seen yet
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

How is Portland remotely interested in that? They gonna blow it up and trade Dame too?

You probably need TL instead of Grant going to Warriors.

I think the 7th could be interesting for Portland they could use it to upgrade a different spot or add a guy to bench that can grow similar to a Cam Johnson or Porter Jr.

I always remember Covington as a big game choker with the Sixers.

I'd be down. I think people severely underrate McCollum (and I'm also totally done with Smart, lol), and think he'd be perfectly capable of running PG here. Looney would be a solid depth big - he's only 25! Also a solid passing big.

Try and sign Wayne Ellington or Kent Bazemore for little money as well as Kelly Olynyk with the MLE. Roster is:

CJ McCollum / Payton Pritchard
Jaylen Brown / Kent Bazemore
Aaron Nesmith / Evan Fournier
Jayson Tatum / Kelly Olynyk / Jabari Parker
Al Horford / Robert Williams / Moses Brown

I'd be okay with that

Hard pass on McCullum.
