Pascal Siakam: overlooked trade target?

It’s been well publicized that Siakam has had a tumultuous relationship with Raptors head coach Nick Nurse. I think because of that, and the fact that the Raptors might be thinking they overpaid him, teams will throw some offers at Toronto this summer. Denver, Atlanta, and Golden State come to mind as possible landing spots if the Raptors choose to move on from Siakam. Is there any way Boston could get in the mix?

It seems unlikely, since for the Celtics to absorb his $30 mill contract they’d likely have to shed Kembas contract. I know it would take a lot of financial maneuvering on the part of the Celtics front office, but I just think Siakam would be a great Celtic and fits a lot of the needs the team has. When he’s not relied upon to be one of the top guys, and plays his role, he’s fantastic. Hustles, rebounds, plays D, and can stretch the floor, exactly what Boston needs out of a PF right now.

What do you think? Is there any world in which Trading for Siakam is even a remote possibility? ..Maybe a cheaper option would be Jeremy Grant, but I think you could argue that the Celtics don’t even have the assets to pull that off.

Best I could come up with is a 3 team trade

Boston - Siakam, Beverley
Los Angeles - Walker, Thompson
Toronto - Smart, Morris, Zubac, Nesmith, Bos 21, Bos 22, Bos 24 (top 4)

Not sure that is good enough a package, but I don't think much else makes a lot of sense for any of the teams.

I agree that type of package would be a fair return for Siakam. The question would be could our core of Tatum/Brown/ Siakam compete for titles. That package would effectively limit our ability to change the roster going forward. I'm not sure that core is good enough.

I guess we're at the phase where we are looking for talented but disgruntled players now.

Personally, I'd rather take shots at guys who might become really good than look for guys who can't make an ideal situation work. Overpay for someone with potential that solves a problem instead. There are guys like that in the draft, and there are young players in the league who are behind other players.

The Walker Smart backcourt, and the gaping hole at power forward are the team's problems. We don't need a home run. We just need to fix those things with practical solutions. If we got rid of Smart and Walker, and were able to get Ricky Rubio and Scotty Barnes, and keep Fournier, we'd be fine. Just an example.

His only real help is from Lowry, who is aging right before our eyes. They have no real big men, ask him to do way too much, and he clearly doesn't see eye to eye with the coach. I think he'd be far better off and more comfortable in Boston as the third banana behind Brown and Tatum.

 I think Siakam as a 3rd banana suits him the best. He was absolutely fantastic for the Raptors that championship year in that role.

But I have a hard tome seeing how to make a deal work for him.

I've mentioned him a couple of times over the past few months. I would be more than happy to bring him to Boston; just don't know that I want to give up Kemba, Smart, Nesmith, and 3 1sts to make it happen.

Gee, I certainly wish that Kemba Walker would age right before our eyes like Kyle Lowry has.

hmm maybe if the celtics could get rid of kemba in a salary dump they could just trade Smart, Thompson, Nesmith, 2 1sts for siakam? smart seems like a player nick nurse would covet, nesmith has shown his upside, and thompson...well, thompsons from canada. thats probably his only seeling point in that trade.

Doubt the Clippers would be interested in that return.

So the Cs are relying on PP as their only point guard and the oft-injured Time Lord as their only center? And we would trade our picks and only promising wing depth? I don’t see this as a good idea.

It's just impossible to know what players will be traded for these days. Harden was essentially traded for an expiring Kelly Olynyk and some picks/swaps. Kemba, Smart, Nesmith are infinitely better assets than KO. We technically don't even need to trade Kemba to get a deal like this done, but we would be so far over the tax - especially if we bring back Fournier.
