The 8-1 Cardinals got blown out by the Panthers today lol. Maybe a good thing the Pats got Darnold last week instead of Walker, eh?  :P

This Chiefs-Raiders game tonight feels huge. Not just for those teams and the AFC West, but the AFC in general. Also affects the Pats in terms of seeding in the playoff picture.

Chargers lost so I think at the moment the Pats are ahead of them in the standings (and also have the head-to-head tiebreaker if needed)
Cardinals offensive weapons are all on the sidelines, left them super vulnerable.

That being said, maybe the Jets and Darnold were the perfect marriage of terrible :P

If Belichick gets to 11-6 or 12-5, does he get another Coach of the Year award?

Also, is Coach Belichick gets the team to 11-6 or 12-5, what does that say about how great a job GM Belichick has done? Especially the two excellent drafts the last couple years?

You gotta remember Nick a good qb is automatically 8 wins.

I think 11-6 is possible, which would be incredible with a rookie QB. Have to say though, the only victory that was impressive had to be the game vs the Chargers in LA. They haven’t beat any other good teams. Tennessee will be a good test even without Derrick Henry and then they have the 2 games against Buffalo. The defense is looking good, the run game is solid and Mac has been improving each week. Still worry about the WR’s though. Hunter Henry is the only reliable option and the two highest paid skill players in Jonnu Smith and Nelson Agholor have been big disappointments thus far. That’s $24M worth of contract with very little production.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

The receivers/TEs have been above average IMO.  Not a ton of separation but an accurate QB and good hands. Smith’s been much more involved as the season’s progressed (of course didn’t play yesterday).  Bourne, Meyers, and Agholor have been solid receivers and Bolden (in particular) has been a spark catching balls out of the backfield. They are missing a top flight #1 receiver/ they don’t have a guy who can’t separate downfield, but going into the season we knew they had a handful of #2/3’s and that’s what they’ve been.

Free agent Matt Judon is playing like DPOY candidate. Van Noy and Jamie Collins and Jalen Mills return values have been well over what they have been paid.

ESPN talking heads saying Belichick's way of developing young QBs is the perfect playbook of how to develop a rookie QB.

Like I said, defense has looked good. It’s just the 2 biggest FA signings on the offense have not been producing. That’s $24M a year in salary giving you very little output. That’s a ton of money.

It really seems to me that you are expecting perfection. Not every play called will be a success. Not every game played. Nor every draft pick picked. Nor every free agent signed.

The Pats have had great performances above to ridiculously above paid value from almost all their free agent pickups this offseason. Two players, not so much. That happens.

And their money really isn't a lot in the total scheme of things. It's $24 million but just $12.5 million cap number against a $200 million cap. And, neither the season nor their contracts are over to judge those contracts completely.

Fact is, the free agency of the Pats, as a whole, has been a tremendous success and will look even better when the cap explodes over the next couple years

Never said anything about expecting perfection. Just pointing out that the two players that are being paid the most on offense and were supposed to have the biggest impact on that side of the field, are not doing much at all. Definitely a pattern when it comes to signing FA WR’s and it’s been a huge waste of money when you look at what $24M can command in terms of talent. You have Tyreek Hill and Michael Thomas making $18-19M a year. Both Devante Adams and Stefon Diggs are making $14.5M.  Pats are spending $24M on Agholor and Jonnu Smith. That’s a huge waste of resources.

The first week of NFL free agency is riddled with overpayments (in many sports). In order to get access to the top names (and Agholor was one), teams often have to overpay. Just the way it is.....

Hey, I know that everyone is excited about Mac Jones, and with good reason, but did anyone notice that Bryan Hoyer had a perfect QB rating on Sunday?  ;D
