I think I'm landing on "this isn't going to change with this mix of players so they just need to make a change for the sake of making a change."

Keep Tatum and brown, obviously.

Try to keep Timelord and Pritchard.

I'd do what I can to trade everyone else.

Try to recapture that weird pre-Kyrie magic where most of the team was a bunch of castoff misfit toy veterans hungry to prove their worth.
I agree with this. The thing with Smart is he's at the stage of his career where he doesn't bring it with the same intensity night after night like he did when he was younger. And their young guys just don't grind enough especially defensively.  I think this is something that - if you clear the decks of some of their deadwood - you can address.  And it certainly speaks to keeping Langford around for the time being because he at least defends.

Blows me away that some people want us to fire one of the top 10 GMs in the NBA that way we can hire some guy that none of the current 30 NBA teams think is better than their current GM.

Danny got blasted again on Toucher and Rich

I don't even know why he comes on the air ... unless he has to , due to some contractual reason

Danny made a slew of excuses like lack of fans .... and again, didn't blame Brad for any of the issues

At this rate, Celts would be lucky to sneak into the playoffs

In some ways I'd prefer to the disaster to be complete and for them to miss the playoffs.  That would require true reckoning / roster overhaul.

If they end up getting the 5th seed and lose in 7 games to the Heat or something like that, people will say "It was a weird season, they lost in 7 to the defending Eastern Conference Champions, everything is actually fine."

And he shouldn't.  We have one of the worst benches in the NBA for the second year in a row, and this year have said bench with a $34 million PG who can't play consistently, which Ainge knew was a problem in the offseason.  Ainge should have paid Hayward $120 million to stick around and eaten the luxury tax, or he should sell pieces, because he's given his coach a roster that can't win.

A bench is terrible if it has a chance to show that it is

last night, how many shots did they put up?

Actually I think they shot over 60 percent, with the opportunity given

Vs Tatum/Brown  going on iso mode again

Jays know what it takes to win (4 game winning streak prior to All Star Break).

And recently resort to poor habits again.

Listened to parts of the T and R interview. Brutal.  At one point Danny suggested that team's lack of motivation was due to lack  of home crowd noise, which was incredibly weak and attacked by the radio crew, rightfully so.

If we don't make the playoffs, or lose in the first round, I would not be surprised if Brad is fired.  And if things don't turn around by next season, Danny will probably be fired.  The differential between fan expectations and actual performance has gotten too big.

Agree and disagree

Ainge won't lift a finger and fire Brad unless the Celts miss the playoffs this season and next.   Or a string of 1st round exits

Ainge is likely is not going anywhere, unless the next coach he hires fails also.  Gets jacked in trades due to panic moves.

I said a few months back ...I don’t think DA will be back .

it’s his baby ....he laid the egg , hired the players based on a system that doesn’t work in  today’s NBA I terms of winning championship s and now he has to claim it.

Unless a drastic turnaround occurs ,  and it’s got worse,   We have a team of no tried and true stars , over paid disinterested players ,  can’t keep vet stars ....this all hangs on the GM s out of date team building IMO.

Danny is making value of the franchise drop.  if I’m a owner this is unacceptable.

I believe Danny is cooked with the organization and maybe hanging on by his fingernails.

I wouldn't fire them, but assuming this season plays out as it figures to which is likely a 5 or 6 seed and then a first round exit, they will both be on that hot seat next season.

Pts per touch last night:

PLAYER   PTS PER TOUCH
Jayson Tatum   0.414
Jaylen Brown   0.389
Robert Williams III   0.342
Marcus Smart   0.311
Semi Ojeleye   0.25
Payton Pritchard   0.241
Jeff Teague   0.211
Grant Williams   0.156
Carsen Edwards   0
Daniel Theis   0
Javonte Green   0

Guys other than Tatum and Brown had their opportunities.  They just didn't do much with them.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Danny rebuilt the team into the 2008 Title team, which went through 2013.

He then rebuilt the team again with Irving, Hayward, Horford, and the young players; but that rebuild ended in 2019 with the departure of Irving and Horford. He probably deserves some second guessing for a few of his decisions/non-decisions during this time (ie, not going all-in), but he deserves just as much praise for his drafting of Tatum and Brown. Besides, injuries and weird CBA rules (not being able to trade for a 2nd Rookie Extension contract in AD, not being able to extend Irving to a true max contract in 2018 when he actually wanted to be here) derailed much of what could have been.

So, here we are in rebuild #3. We surprisingly made the ECF last season, but the same could hardly be expected this year with the rise of the Nets and Sixers, as well as the Bucks continued strong play. We lost Hayward, but gained a potentially valuable piece in the TPE. Honestly, I think we have to give it a couple of more years before we consider moving on. Danny has done a masterful job rebuilding two completely different Cs teams in the past and we have the building blocks to get there again...But I agree, there probably does need to be a pretty major roster overhaul for us to be one of the elite contenders. This team's ceiling just seems too low - even with Tatum/Brown.

Danny is a really good GM compared to what else is out there. Yes, part of me would like to see a Dan Dombrowski type off-season, where we totally mortgage everything for a shot at a title. However, going “all in” rarely works, and it’s likely we’d end up worse than we are now with an ugly future.

20-21.

Home loss to a bad Sacramento team.

This team is circling the drain.

Danny needs to go.
