  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
At this point, I think the Warriors would be more than happy to attach compensation for getting rid of Oubre. Maybe not an outright 1st, but a lottery protected 1st with one of our MEM 2nds going back to them. Reports out there indicate that GSW is essentially paying anywhere from $60M-80M in luxury tax payments this season just to have him on their team. We can wipe that out for them completely.

Despite his struggles this season, I believe that Oubre is in fact a good basketball player and plays a position of need. Obviously he is a scorer, but he is also a decent rebounder and generates steals. I do think his lack of playmaking is a problem, but if we can actually gain an asset with the partial use of the TPE (still $14M left on to use in the offseason), then it is something to consider - especially since he is hardly looking at a big pay day beyond this season (good possibility of keeping him if we want).

Oubre seems like a ballhog considering his offensive ability.  I think he would make us even angrier than Smart does in this regard.
Oubre has got a lot of Marcus Morris in him.

Ball-stopping. Shot-happy. Selfishness. Onus on one-on-one moves and shot attempts over shot attempts in the flow of an offense.

Does this mean for the minimum if Golden State bought him out?

I think still no...

Yes he has the toughness and brashness that this team desperately needs.

Yeah, I probably would.  He's about 6'7", with a 7'2" wingspan.  I believe, he ahs steadily improved his D and last year was almost a 19/7 guy in 34MPG for Phoenix.

No thanks.

Oubre is the epitomy of an average player only with an above average salary.

He doesn't make the team appreciably better and is an expiring contract that could leave after the season. I'm not a fan of using the TPE on most every expiring contract that I have seen proposed for the TPE. There's way to high a risk that the player leaves after the season.

For free? Heck yeah. He’s young and he’s a wing. Pretty solid defender. He’s had a rough go so far this year but he’s versatile and he has some attitude (in a good way).

Don't want him on the Cs.  He's a punk.  Remember his cheap shot on Olynyk in 2017.  He hasn't changed much except he makes more money.

Nope! He’s shown who he is when he’s playing off of numerous superior offensive players - stagnant mover, nonexistent passer and willing to shoot his own team out of the game
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)

Yeah, we need tough guys and enforcers on this team. Guys who will throw elbows and fists at opposing players to knock 'em out, and back up their teammates.

Plus I think he can provide some depth at the wing

He had a great year with Phx last season until he tore miniscus. I’d grab him if we could get him cheap. Would help our wing depth.

I would if it also involved TT going out and them sending a 1st with Oubre to us. They would be saving a ton of money gives C's a bench scorer. Get out of TT and extend Theis.

It's an interesting idea to trade Thompson for Oubre (and perhaps get a small asset along with it). In a vacuum that's a good deal. But ultimately the question is whether you actually want Oubre on the team and I have to agree with gouki88: I do not.

Maybe a 3-team-deal? What team is interested in Oubre? Would Washington take him back in exchange for Bertans?

He's good. Wouldnt want him in Boston though because he would disrupt team chemistry.

I would rather go for Parker who's been riding the pine since the season started. Like Oubre, he has almost similar size but with more muscle. He's still young, athletic, good shooter, with decent post moves and some other intangibles.
