LaMelo has been better than Lonzo at every age.  Not even all that close.  He is also bigger, which always meant he was going to be at least a good NBA player.  I definitely would have taken him 1 as I always felt he had the highest ceiling of anyone in the draft.

As for Australia he averaged 17/7.4/6.8 (plus 1.7 steals) in 12 games before he got hurt.  He was starting to really turn it on as well before the injury and even had back to back triple doubles one of which he scored 32 points.  Didn't shoot all that well at only like 38%, but the talent was clearly apparent.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

I haven't seen him play yet but his stats are far better than I expected. I keep expecting him to fall off but he isn't.

I wonder what that might say (if anything at all) about the present state of the NBA when looking at Ball's stats here relative to his stats in Australia -- have they made it too easy to score / be effective offensively now in the NBA?
It's been like a year since he last played in Australia no? I think it's more about him growing as a player than Australian basketball being really tough for offensive players. Still don't rate his defence though (think his size helps him somewhat but man he's just so bad at everything related to defence besides gambling for stocks), Lonzo is miles ahead of him in that regard.
Jaylen Brown for All-NBA

Looks more and more like should have been chosen #1

I had him at 1 in my mock

I would have taken him #1 regardless of what team. But I also would have taken Lonzo #1 and I really thought Lonzo was gonna be potentially as great or better than Jason Kidd.
true but he ain't that bad. He's sort of like a taller rondo

I think Lonzo is still super talented but I wonder how much joy of the game his dad ruined for him. He just plays with no aggression. 6 ft 6 excelle t handle, snd court vision but he will not attack the paint. He’s afraid to go brick at the line. Reminds me of how Antoine just started avoiding contact and never went back for the same reason. It’s a shame. People hated Lonzo, at least in Boston anyways. But always seemed a classy, quiet dude to me. But he plays like he’s depressed.

It has, but as I said he basically averaged 17/7.5/7 and near the end of his 12 games had back-to-back triple doubles (scoring 32 and 25 in them).  He was getting better and better before the injury.
