Gordon did have a pretty good season last year with the celtics at 17.5 PPG

he was just redundant with brown/Tatum. Theres only so many shots that can go around. When he signed, Isaiah Thomas was out top scorer, Brown barely had seen the floor and Tatum was just drafted.

Once those two broke out and he got injured it was a totally different situation than the one he signed up for

I’m not sure if he was redundant.  When we had all 3 in the lineup we were quite formidable.  He is also the best passer out of the group (as of now at least).  I might take a healthy Hayward over a healthy Walker.

He went for the money though.  If winning mattered more to him he wouldn’t have gone there.

$34 Million wasn't enough for him ?  What universe do these guys live in ?
The Four Celtic Generals:

So far Hayward looks like he deserves his $$$. Why wasn’t Danny willing to pay him but have injured Kemba

Hayward looks like the player we were expecting when we signed years ago. [dang], this Hayward in playoffs and we make finals and maybe even win it.

He needed more touches and to be more of a focus it seems.

He was pretty pedestrian his second game, 12 points.  Let's get a bigger sample size before jumping to conclusions.

And the money was just too much for us to afford, given our other commitments.

He’s looked good, but a) he wouldn’t be able to put up 23/7/5 in Brad’s system, b) it’s a 3 game sample size, and c) it’s a 4 year deal.

The only other guys with comparable contract histories are LeBron James & Kevin Durant. Only other guys with multiple 4 year $30m deals, IIRC
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

$34m for a year vs $120m for 4 years with his injury history - quite a big difference. It's a professional game, can't blame someone for trying to get paid.

Unfortunately more touches from him would have meant less for Jaylen and Jayson, which may have impacted their development - and less touches for Kemba who was our other max player. There's only so many touches for everyone.

Taking touches away from Tatum right now would be an amazing thing to do.

Right now I agree. Last year I would have agreed too. But at least it's only been 3 games. Gordon's been in the league 10 years though, Tatum is just starting his fourth season. Gordon plays the game the right way and usually makes the right decisions, even if those decisions mean passing up the ball (which a lot of people here criticized him for during his time here). Time will tell whether JT develops the type of judgment he needs to get to the next level. It's going to be interesting watching how he develops this season.

Gordo is looking good in December and will be home playing video games in April.

Good for him, wish him the best.

Glad he’s no longer a Celtic though.

Hope Gordo enjoys money and stat padding over re-building an NBA legacy because he ain’t sniffing anything playoffs relayed with that mess in Charlotte.
Sounding a touch salty

Eh. A bit blunt, but accurate. He certainly didn't go to Charlotte for a chance at a ring. I mean, he and Terry combined for 70 and still lost to Cleveland without Love. They're going to lose a ton of games, but he secured the bag and gets to take more shots per game. That's what he wanted and that's his prerogative as a player.

Charlotte has the same chance as us at winning the nba finals.

0.

Good for him for leaving for more money, better situation for him etc

Can’t blame the guy for taking the money and being the #1 option on the team
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin
