I don’t see why teams want to keep making the 7th or 8th seeds year after year. They should trade  off assets and get into the draft lottery and try and get some top tier talent.
Money.  There is a lot more money in making the playoffs then not making the playoffs.  And while teams like the Thunder and Sixers had fairly successful tanks, a lot of times you end up like the Kings and instead of being perpetually mediocre you end up perpetually bad, and in that it is better to be mediocre than bad.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

My thoughts on this:

(1) Rozier will have no problem playing with or sharing the ball with Gordon Hayward. It was sharing the ball with Tatum, Jaylen, Smart, Kyrie, Hayward and M.Morris that caused problems. No one element. It was everything altogether.

(2) I expect Rozier to easily beat LaMelo out for playing time. I have no faith in LaMelo's readiness for the NBA. He was inefficient / ineffective in Australia. How the heck is going to handle the NBA?

That situation won't become a problem for years to come and that is only IF LaMelo can develop into a good player which may not happen. Rozier is only under contract for 2 more years anyway so he probably won't be around anymore by the time LaMelo (IF LaMelo) pieces his game together.

(3) Rozier is the not the type of PG you build a team around or plan long term with. He is a journey man. He is too flawed of a floor general / playmaker to become a building block for anyone. He will venture from team to team. That will be his career.

And there is nothing wrong with that. Rozier will be a valuable scoring-orientated role player at PG for teams who need such a player. He is unlikely to get such a big payday in the future but he can play on successful teams if he & his prospective new team understand his limitations and find the right for him.

It's Charlotte, so who cares?
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

LaMelo might be given the minutes even if Rozier is playing much better than him.  I'm guessing LaMelo will be force fed a lot of minutes whether he deserves them or not.

Yea, they could do. That would suck for Terry. I hope that doesn't happen to him. I still like the guy and I am pulling for him.

I can imagine LaMelo putting up stats like Michael Carter Williams did as a rookie (if force fed minutes). 16-6-6. One of the league leaders in turnovers and one of the most inefficient scorers in the league.

I think you are right on the money with the Michael Carter Williams scenario.
