The Reagan Foundation called the RNC and asked them to stop the sale of fund-raising coins that featured the likeness of Ronald Reagan.

This did not go over well with Trump.

Washington — President Trump lashed out at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute and Fox News on Sunday after the presidential foundation requested his campaign and the Republican National Committee stop using former President Ronald Reagan's likeness to fundraise.

"So the Washington Post is running the Reagan Foundation, and RINO Paul Ryan is on the Board of Fox, which has been terrible," Mr. Trump tweeted. "We will win anyway, even with the phony @FoxNews suppression polls (which have been seriously wrong for 5 years)!"

Maybe they can take back the MAGA slogan too.

Yup

Odd bedfellows, the CEO of the Washington Post managing the Reagan foundation.

This seems to be a cut off your nose to spite your face type of thing. The Reagan foundation no doubt receives more fundraising from the RNC than the RNC does in reverse from using the image of Reagan.

The Reagan Foundation is mostly paid for by an endowment fund, which surpassed 100M way back in 2011 and is probably much, much larger today.

Where’s the funding from that endowment fund come from?  Fundraising.

They were essentially selling a coil with Reagan's face on it.  What if they started selling a coil with Bill Belichick's face on it (with out his permission).  Do you think he would expect to be asked for permission?  I think this is a reasonable response by the Reagan Foundation and the Trump Foundation would do the same if someone was making money off their name without permission/granting a cut (oh but wait, that foundation was shut down over illegal activity, but you get the point).

RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said on Twitter the GOP "has used President Reagan's image for decades."

Yeah, I don't think people have been selling coins for decades.  There may well be political undertones to this but the RNC should have gotten formal permission to put Reagan's face on a coin that they intended to sell, be it part of the Trump campaign or any other campaign.  The RNC really has nothing to make an issue of on this.

But not necessarily through the RNC.

The foundation also receives some taxpayer funding as do all the presidential libraries.
