War on the press:

"A reporter for an NBC affiliate station in Louisville, KY was fired upon by police Friday night during a live broadcast covering street protests in that city.

Kaitlin Rust, a journalist at WAVE 3, was live on the air when a man wearing a mask and vest that said ďpoliceĒ began firing at her and a colleague."

Probably important to note that she was fired upon by pepper bullets.

Video above.  Weird scene.  She definitely seemed targeted.

Lootings and fire-setting happening all around DTLA and Beverly Hills. Even The Grove stores have been shattered and broken into. National Guards are being deployed.

This is not a protest for George Floyd anymore.

Yeah.  I need a new air conditioner.  I think Iím going to go protest by gathering some friends and looting Lowes.

This is a disgrace.  Iím just waiting for 2020ís Reginald Denny now.  Weíve come close; I saw video of thugs on the Cali freeways trying to pull people out of cars.

Weíre lucky there hasnít been more bloodshed.  Theyíre eventually going to run into somebody with an AR-15 who wants to protect his livelihood.

EDIT:

Quote
A man was run over and killed by a FedEx truck during protests in St. Louis, authorities said.

With demonstrators marching over the death of George Floyd swarming streets and causing road closures, the driver of the double tractor-trailer was rerouted off the highway and into surrounding roads, where he encountered another large protest and was forced to stop, investigators said.

While he was stopped, several people gained access to one of the truckís trailers and started to remove packages, NBC.com reported.

Then two men, ďwhile standing on the passenger side foot boardĒ flashed guns at the driver, cops said.

Terrified, the driver blasted his horn and took off until he was stopped by police ó not realizing that a man had been caught between the two trailers, was pulled underneath and run over, Sgt. Keith Barrett said in a statement.

On Twitter, an apparent witness to the incident said several protesters tried to pull the victim from the truck as it drove away. The tweet appears to show the victim caught between the truckís trailers.

Attorney General William Barr issued a dire warning to individuals who cross state lines to engage in rioting and violent demonstrations in major cities where people are protesting the killing of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer. He stated that the Department of Justice is willing to take ďall action necessaryĒ to enforce federal law that prohibits crossing state lines to incite or participate in rioting.

While addressing reporters, Barr indicated that ďfar-left extremist groupsĒ were responsible for the violence taking place in major cities like Minneapolis, Dallas, and Los Angeles. He also pointed out the impact that these groups are having on those who wish to demonstrate peacefully.

ďUnfortunately, with the rioting that is occurring in many of our cities around the country, the voices of peaceful protests are being hijacked by violent radical elements,Ē Barr said. ďIn many places it appears the violence is planned, organized, and driven by far-left extremist groups and anarchic groups using Antifa-like tactics.Ē

MINNEAPOLIS ó Drifting out of the shadows in small groups, dressed in black, carrying shields and wearing knee pads, they head toward the front lines of the protest. Helmets and gas masks protect and obscure their faces, and they carry bottles of milk to counteract tear gas and pepper spray.

Most of them appear to be white. They carry no signs and don't want to speak to reporters. Trailed by designated "medics" with red crosses taped to their clothes, these groups head straight for the front lines of the conflict.

Night after night in this ravaged city, these small groups do battle with police and the National Guard, kicking away tear gas canisters and throwing back foam-rubber projects fired at them. Around them, fires break out. Windows are smashed. Parked cars destroyed. USA TODAY reporters have witnessed the groups on multiple nights, in multiple locations. Sometimes they threaten those journalists who photograph them ...

ďThe real hard-core guys, this is their job: Theyíre involved in this struggle," said Adam Leggat, a former British Army counterterrorism officer who now works as a security consultant specializing in crowd management for the Densus Group. "They need protests on the street to give them cover to move in.Ē ...

Leggat, the security consultant, said intelligence reports from his colleagues indicate most of the hard-core protesters in Minneapolis are far-left or anarchists, and that far-right groups have not yet made a significant appearance. He said looting is typically done by locals Ė usually people with no criminal record who just get caught up in the moment.

But direct conflicts with authorities come from a mix of both locals and outside groups who see these conflicts as a core part of their mission. Many of the anarchists, he said, target banks, chain-type businesses and even luxury cars as symbols of corrupt institutions.

Once more, with feeling:

Your Attorney General encouraged this, Minnesota.

Hindsight being 20-20 maybe America should have listened to Colin Kaepernick. All that guy did was kneel for 60 seconds before a sporting event.

These two posts back to back seem fairly incongruous.

I donít think it matters one way or another

After seeing how the citizens of this country handled the corona virus, I wouldnít have much hope for an organized movement among the citizens of this country.

Itís not a coincidence that this was the worst hit country with COVID and had the highest death toll.  Weíre selfish, we only think about ourselves and our own agenda and how things can impact OUR day and conveniences.  Not anyone elseís personal well being or thoughts.

Obviously this isnít EVERYBODY but Iíd say a significant number of the population. People donít care about the person next to them anymore.  Theyíll make a Facebook post about their outrage, maybe change their avatar and thatís about it

Sounds kind of gloomy and pessimistic but I believe it to be the truth

I don't want to hijack this thread, but to be fair US deaths as a percentage of population are no where near the worst in the world.  As of this morning, the US is behind 8 major European countries as well as some smaller countries like San Marino.  https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/data/mortality

And if you look at case vs. mortality rate the US is much lower down the list.  A lot of that is because the US is testing a lot more than many countries (and often is including anti-bodies test results) and obviously has a larger population.

There is a disturbingly high number of reports of police arresting/assaulting journalists covering these protests

I completely disagree about all of the above but there are a few things Americans can change:
1. Stop committing crimes and help each other! Is that really that difficult???
2. Stop watching FOX , CNN , Boston globe etc until they change their ways and stop dividing everyone. Iím absolutely disgusted by the way the pandemic was politicized by media and  ďjournalistsĒ that are not qualified to comment on mortality rates to shape public opinions .
3. Stop voting in extremists - trump , Cruz , sanders .. Cortez
4. Stop Scaring everyone how bad things are . There is a great world out there to explore and you all live in the most cultural and diverse country in the world.
5. Try to be the best version of yourself.. excel at your trade but also help one another
6. Donít make fun of other people that may have other views than yours! What if you are wrong but donít realize it?
7. Donít try to shape public opinions with faulty narratives ... if you are not an expert at something donít express strong opinions about it.
8. I may add more at some point

7. Donít try to shape public opinions with faulty narratives ... if you are not an expert at something donít express strong opinions about it.
8. I may add more at some point

Your solutions are too simplistic and optimistic.

1. Crimes are man made, they are functions of man made laws. Some go against basic human instincts therefore the question of stopping crime is very complex.

2. FOX, CNN etc do not divide people. People are already divided FOX CNN just exploit the divisions.

3. Stop voting extremist in... I actually think this is doable if voting is made easier then the will of the people may actually reign supreme. In the present clime the politicians to a large extent only want their people, and not everybody to vote. Make voting easier, online voting, voting day holidays, etc.

4. For a lot of people things are really really bad. They do not need to be scared. into thinking things are bad. They live in very dire circumstances.

5. This is something everyone can agree on.

6. You have to laugh off the position taken on some issues by some folks. That is the only way to deal with some ridiculous positions.

7. The expert class is more of the problem than the solution because in America you can almost always find an expert on either side of an issue. Example is the Floyd Autopsy.. some so-called experts are already saying that the strangulation was not a cause of death while I am sure some other experts will say it was. When experts cannot agree, the people are left to their own decisions. Besides, our entire judicial system allows for ordinary citizens (jurors) to decide very technical and complicated issues like guilt and innocence, civil liability, right and wrong. This is very empowering and makes everyone think they have the necessary tools to make complex decisions.
