Was Belichick right for wanting to keep Garoppolo as Brady’s successor?

I'm still perfectly fine with keeping Brady.

While Jimmy G. missed basically all of last year to injury, Brady and the Pats won a SB. Since the trade, they've been to 2 SBs, won 1, and in that time Brady also won a regular season MVP.

And also, the Niners won 2 weeks ago by a score of 37-20 with Jimmy G. throwing a total of 8 passes LOL. Even Brady could have taken this Niners team to the SB. The Niners are WAY more loaded than the Patriots this season. Not even close.

The pats were in the SB the last two years and won it all last year, so I don't think it makes sense to complain.

I mean, they COULD have. I just don't think having two unhappy qbs is a good outlook for both the locker room or to the rest of the league.

They could’ve and crippled any cap flexibility. You would’ve had 25% of the cap tied up on two quarterbacks.

The only thing we know for sure is that the Pats went to 2 Super Bowls after trading Jimmy: won one and lost the other despite an incredible performance by Brady. 

Will never know if Jimmy G ever would have won anything as a patriot. So... I try not to think about it and just continue to revel for as long as possible in the 20 years of good fortune we’ve had with the Pats.

People go entire lifetimes hoping for their team to win just one SB (or championship in whatever sport). Even if Brady leaves this offseason, it will have totally been worth it had the alternative been not winning last year, but having a new franchise QB in place for the next 10 years.

Of course, as Roy says, if we could have had both with Jimmy G sitting on the bench, then sure; but that just didn't seem plausible. That 6th SB meant everything and, frankly, means even more with Brady winning it just to add to his legendary status in NE.

Agree.  Super Bowl appearances 8 and 9 for Brady (10 and 11 for the franchise) were worth it. Win #6 was icing to the abundantly frosted cake. 

I lived my first 42 years with 2 Super Bowl appearances (and one of those appearances was basically over after a quarter).  My next 19 years there were 9 appearances, 6 wins, and each of the losses winnable.  I refuse to complain.  Still hopeful for another with Tom.

If Pats kept Jimmy G, who are the 5 players making $5 million a year or the 6 players making $4 million a year that would not have been on the team during that time? My guess is those players missing could have meant no SBs.
