Sabonis is a fine player and we'd love him here but still Jaylen all day. More valuable skill set who fits better with our systems, higher ceiling, and, well, he's ours.

They can talk it over on our behalf at the All-Star Game though.  ;)

I think it's much better to have an imbalanced roster that is very good at certain things that opponents can't match than it is to have a balanced roster that is not great at any one thing.

Agree with this. If there's significant redundancy or conflict in your strengths (like there was last year) then lateral talent moves that shore up weaknesses make sense. If there's not and you can keep your weaknesses from killing you, then you should want your strengths as exaggerated as possible. Especially in areas as valuable as two-way wing play. We'd need to clearly get the best player to be worth giving up one of the 3 wings, and I don't think those kinds of offers are out there.

A good test case for this could happen if Portland trades McCollum for upgrades at 3/4.

I always thought that the time to go after Sabonis was in the summer of 2018.  Boston had a great playoff run with the kids (and without Kyrie).

Indiana was reportedly doing some hard internal thinking regarding whether Turner and Sabonis  together made sense and Pacers were in need for a point guard.

Terry Rozier's perceived value was never higher.  I suggested on this board that summer a straight up trade Rozier for Sabonis.  Alas, I guess Danny wasn't listening  ;D ;D

Other than rebounding, what does Sabonis provide this team lacks? He can't guard elite big men. He can't switch. He can't shoot 3s.

He's a very good player, I don't think he helps the Celtics enough to trade a talented player at the most valuable position in the league.

Before the season started I would have done this trade. Not now.
Any big I look at trading for now I need to look at how he matches up with the 2 bigs we need to beat Embid and GA. That limits the field a lot.
So right now none of our top 4 seem likely to bring back a game changing big.
Give me a shooter and I’m happy .

Currently, 31-3 in favor of Brown.

That's pretty decisive and one-sided.

Yea surprised it was so one sided TBH

Does Brown for Sabonis + 10 mil/year cap space change anyone's opinion? I assume it doesn't.

zero. Sabonis would be wrong for our system.

Sabonis is an excellent passer for a big man.  He has very soft hands and is an excellent low post scorer.  I think he would easily find a place on this team and in this offense.  Not much of a switcher, but is an ok man defender and positions himself well for team defense.

And 10 million cap space can get you a lot.

That said it is almost impossible for Boston and Indiana to make a trade with those 2 as the centerpieces given how their contracts count in trading purposes.

I didn’t realize we obtained Jaylen Brown by trading Sabonis away.

We killed it on that trade.

Bonis  will be a fine player for a long time. He is pretty much what he is for the long haul.

Brown is on a path to be a STAR player For a LONG time .
