https://www.celticsblog.com/2019/7/3/20678734/an-ode-to-kyrie-irving-boston-celtics-nba

While I respect everyone having an opinion on how they feel about a topic I also respect that we can discuss it.  I am a die hard C's fan through and through.  Over and above all other sports I choose Celtic Basketball and I love ALL sports.  There is something about rooting for the Celtics that is a privilege like no other.  It's more then being a fan of a sports team.  The Celtics just epitomize hard work, determination and championships.  You earn it as a Celtic.

Now I don't hate Kyrie.  I don't think he is a bad guy but I agree with the people who feel this past season was mostly his fault and here is why I believe that.  Garnett, Pierce and Allen proved you can be a top 10 player and sacrifice, lead and win.  Kyrie is a guy who talks out of both sides of his mouth.  He's moody and entitled.  He's a 100% grade A millennial.

A lot of stories are rumors but actions we've seen on the court and comments in the media lead one to believe that a lot of these rumors have legitimacy to them.  Kyrie is suppose to show the young guys how to behave, lead and sacrifice.  He did none of that.  Before Kyrie the C's were fun, hard working and were a team that played together.  Not to be cheesy but Ubuntu. Kyrie drug this team down to his level of behavior and by the middle of the season he lost the team from the coach down to the last man on the bench.

For me it's not an ode to Kyrie its a farewell, good luck but please don't ever come back kind of thing.  He was never a Celtic.  He's not a guy who will sacrifice for the well being of the team.  He's not a guy who is going to lead and develop men younger then him.  It doesn't make him a bad person it just means he should be celebrated in any way either.

Sorry for the rant but I thought this article was worth discussing.

I'm probably one of the exceptions here in that I don't really hold that much animosity towards Kyrie, at least not once the season ended and it became obvious he was history. I got over Ray leaving and I've got over Kyrie leaving. I'll boo him like I boo any other rival player but I'm not losing sleep over him leaving us at the altar. There's no doubt it was a snake move, but I'm more interested in our team, our players right now.

I understand for a lot of people the wounds are still raw, and the fact that we went from title contenders (in the media anyway) to just another decent playoff team can be largely laid at Kyrie's feet. I agree, he wasn't a Celtic, not the way we want Celtics to act. I think he tried at some point, and last season had a lot of factors that caused the team to fail, he just doesn't have those personal qualities we want in our Celtics. Brooklyn is welcome to him. Players will always come and go but the Celtics are eternal.

But I will sneak a glance at Brooklyn now and then and there may even be a bit of schadenfreude if they start to stumble and have "chemistry issues" sometime this season.

Having Kyrie on my favorite sports team was, by and large, an unpleasant and dispiriting experience.

Some of his dribble moves and layups were really awesome in the traditional sense of the word.

I wanted to believe in Kyrie.  I wanted to get on board with him being the franchise guy.  I wanted to believe it would work.  I was ready to accept him as the long term guy.

It didn't work out.

I'm so glad it's over.

He's somebody else's problem now.

I'm not interested in odes.  Kyrie handled his time in Boston badly.  It is without question a negative mark in his career, no matter what he goes on to accomplish in Brooklyn or wherever else he goes.

Thankfully it's done and we can move on.

The most surprising part for me was his inability to handle the media and microphone. He just wasn't smart about his approach. To be the face of franchise you need that ability as much as the Shamgod.  Celtics will be better this year because of that part going away.

I really wish he hadn't made that "I'll re-sign here if you'll have me" statement early October in front of the TD Garden Crowd. No matter how you cut it,  it makes everything look awkward and also makes Kyrie look really bad as he departs for BKN.

And I had hope Kyrie would work out with us, but once I saw how seemingly quit on the team after Game 3 of the Bucks series... yeah, good riddance. There were a lot of other issues with the team, but no denying he was the primary issue considering he was supposed to be our "leader" (lol).

Bye Kyrie. Have fun in Brooklyn without KD for this upcoming season. Can't wait!  ;)

An Ode To Kyrie, Or, A Hater Laments - By IP

Kyrie was a dude, who hated the light,
He had handles for days but no heart to his fight.
He led like he talked, hot air and theory,
And got big mad at common press box queries.
Can't keep his word can't keep his fans
Can't win on his own so he and Kevin made plans
And that's all fine and good and we all wish them well
And we actually hope that his year goes to hell.

The worst part about Kyrie's tenure is that it shined an enormous spotlight on just how big of self-aggrandizing, entitled jerks many Boston sports fans can be at times.  That sucks.

This is spot on! However I’m indifferent to him leaving. He doesn’t really affect the w/l column

It sucks when people notice things?  And the people that notice bad things about someone else are the jerks?  Sounds backwards to me.

I think this is many sports fans across the country, Boston not being any worse than any other city I'm sure. If I could take away a TP from you I would!

I'm not hating on KI don't think he's a bad guy, not very bright but that doesn't make him a bad guy. But I'm glad he's gone!! Hated the brand of basketball he played here and the season was the worse I've watched since I got cable tv in the 80's!

I'll give him credit for at least staying in the East and not jumping back in bed with the Queen and I look forward to beating him next season!

I will miss his handles on the basketball court.

I will not miss his handle on anything else.

Question is, should Ainge have dealt Kyrie at the trade deadline?

At the time, I was glad he didn't.

Now, not so much

Should he have dealt him to the Knicks for Porzingis and Kanter? (remember at the time, both were on the Knicks and salaries would've matched.)

And if so, with Horford now gone, could Danny still have gotten Kemba and kept Porzingis here?
