Wondering how the Lakers build any kind of bench if they use this max slot on one player
They won't have much of one. Very shallow team if they get another max player, they'll likely be better next year than this year if that's the case.

They'll probably fall into a serviceable bench by breaking up the cap space after they strike out on all the major FAs.

yes but how?

wouldn't they only have the mid and veteran free agent exception to work with

They would have 5 players signed.  How do you fill up 8-10 roster spots with like 7 million dollars in total to work with  ;D

I have

Bottom line is, Lakers depth will be terrible like last season

I'm not worried even if they sign Thompson

All of those key guys would need to work that much harder/play more mins

If Leonard goes to the lakers and they win a championship I think that would make Lebron and Kawhi the first main guy to win a championship with three different teams (I'm not talking about role players here).

I wonder if this crosses his mind when deciding between the two LA teams.  I think becoming that player alone and getting the clippers their first championship (which would be the second time he did this for a team) would do so much more for his legacy than just joining the lakers and getting them another championship.

So what did Washington send to the Lakers?

I found it on Spotrac, they had a trade exemption from a trade with Cleveland for Jason Smith worth $5,450,000.  It matched almost perfectly.

I never post (love reading multiple times a day) and I know absolutely nothing about salary cap but how the heck does the Lakers get Reddick for $5m?

I think the LAkers got a 5 mill trade exception for the Wizards trade.

That being said, Reddick can get much, much more than that. It would all depend on if he wants a ring now, or sign one more big one year deal from a team like NY who's going to strike out of FAs this summer. Same with Cousins. He might go with big contract over ring right now to sure up his future. NY has been linked into going after Cousins if they strike out on KD and IRving.

It would be funny of NY ends up with both of them this year just to cover cap.

Thats the problem of were LA is. The CAVS did this a few years ago when they had to fill the bench with ring chasers who happen to be beyond their prime or never really that good, and it hurt them in depth. Now since it's LA they may get a couple of guys taking deals to play in LA and for a ring. But it's a big risk to take.

They didn't Liam, I meant why would Reddick and even Cousins do that? I would think that the $ optimization would be more important to these two.

Bullock is getting more than the minimum if he wants it.

I don’t think cousins would take that big a pay cut given his injury issues. Also hard to imagine reddick leaving Philly for that little amount. Could see the rest

I can't believe that a thread about the Lakers trading scraps to the Wizards has gone on for 7 pages now. ;D

Yeah, I took the liberty to have Redick and Cousins taking less than full value contracts to get a ring, and not only get a ring, but do it as a Laker. In that market they would make some endorsement money as well.

But, my scenario does show that the Lakers can still put a very good team around LeBron and Davis and could contend with it. If not Redick and Cousins, then you still should have 2 $5 million or so slots to give out to a vet that might ring chase.

Maybe Jamal Crawford and Thadeus Young.

Maybe it's Derrick Rose and Marcus Morris.

Just saying, there will be good players available to the Lakers if they bring in DRussell and are left with ~$5 million left in cap space and the Room Exception at $4.7 million.

You've got to find a way to work J.R. Smith on to that team.
