My hindsight is also colored by the fact given what the Lakers gave up in draft compensation I think the C's would have had to include Jayson and Jaylen. Either that or similar full control of the Celtics draft for 7 years.

That's a no go on a guy who more likely than not is leaving, especially since it sounds like Kyrie likely was gone no matter what.

I don't understand what part of "he doesn't want to play in Boston" some don't understand. Ignoring his feelings could have been catastrophic.

Once it was clear that Kyrie was leaving and having to match the Lakers offer, that is to much of a chance to being the Nets of the past few years.

I see a lot of good arguments here, though I'm not sure where Irving and Horford are going. Every FA opts out for bargaining purposes, so that's not an indicator. But with the direction Ainge is going, towards youth,  I'm not sure he wants either of them back. Horford's age limits what he can do in the market. I think the chances are much better Ainge signs Rozier and goes after another center.
