Scary Terry and Smart can handle backcourt duties with the Jays at wings Horford anchors middle..we are good. Hayward can run second unit.

Why settle for Rozier if getting D'Angelo Russell is possible?

It's not really possible barring a S&T though.

And D-Lo is just a poor mans Kyrie. Would rather just run it young

Why is it not possible?

If Horford opts out, that's 30.1m off the payroll.

Once Kyrie leaves, that's another 21.3m.

Celts payroll without Kyrie and Horford will just be around 65m.
The salary cap for next season is 109m.

Riiight. What you are going to see with that lineup is what you saw in the playoffs. A hot mess. And Danny Dolittle still has those "hot" 1st round picks(14 20 22) he was supposedly going to use on the guy he has coveted for YEARS. I can't wait to see what those picks are going to turn into now.

Horford can restructure his deal if he opts out.

That way the Celts can use the cap then re-sign Horford to a more team friendly deal.

I would hope that there would be better options available but given Ainge's affinity for Rozier and what I think will be a lean market for his services this summer, I can see him returning on a short term deal - 2 years with a player option for year 2.

I don't think Rozier would go for that.

It's too risky on Rozier's part.

One injury and it's all over.

At the very least, Rozier would want something like what Marcus Smart got.

Ainge needs to drop his "affinities" asap.

And I like how Maxwell and Wyc have said "oh, Danny would trade his own mother for the right deal"

Blah blah blah

Cap doesn't work that way. Once Horford opts out a cap hold is put in place that is higher than his last year's salary. So you would need to renounce Horford to sign Russell. Then once Russell signs and uses up that cap space, all you have to offer Horford is a full MLE.

That would mean trying to convince Horford to opt out to sign a three year MLE deal that would be as much as the money he would make next year alone on his current contract. That will never happen

Ainge traded Pierce, Garnett, Perkins, Thomas( lesser extent to me), and other Celtic favorites. Ainge will always do what he thinks is best for the Celtics. Ainge is business first.

Without the contracts of Kyrie and Horford, the Celts just have around 65m in total salaries.
The salary cap for next season is 109m.

So there's enough wiggle room to make it happen.

Ainge can always trade 3 picks for 1.

But if it's too complicated then just renounce Horford.

Celts are not close to becoming a contender anyway.

Right now Horford is not a priority.

I believe Horford is a player option, is that true?

You have your numbers wrong. Maybe you are forgetting that Baynes opted in with assurances he would not be traded. So let's look at actual numbers:

Total salary after Kyrie and Horford walk would be $71.8 million. Then you have cap holds for the three draft picks and an empty roster slot. That's slightly over $8 million. So let's call salary and holds total $80 million. You would then need to renounce Kyrie, Horford, Rozier, Theis, Wanamaker and Morris to clear open $29 million in cap space.

If you then use that cap space all you have is the room exception to offer Horford to re-sign.

Your scenario will not happen.
