To Suns: Rozier, Yabusele, 2019 14th pick
To Celtics: Tyler Johnson, 2019 6th pick

* sign and trade Rozier approx 12 million per season

Couldn't use trade machine to input this trade, due to Johnson player option.  But if there is a timing aspect due to options, RFA etc.  trade can be agreed upon in principal correct?  OR could we just trade Rozier rfa rights to the Suns, then don't need to take on Johnson. Can a cap expert chime in.

Celtics could go a number of ways at the draft with the 6th pick.  Go for a PG etc.

I would go with...

#6  PF  Brandon Clarke
#20 SG/PG Luguentz Dort
#22 SG/SF Matisse Thybulle

type of players I believe Danny would target. Strong versatile defenders, that need to expand/improve 3pt shooting (typical Danny/CBS choices going back to Smart, Rozier picks)

The draft comes before free agency, so the deal isn't really workable.  It's illegal to even discuss free agency with Rozier until June 30 at 6pm, so there can't be an agreement in principle.

Why would Phoenix trade for Rozier, when he's a free agent, and they're already under the projected salary cap? I know the Celtics have the option to match, but I'm sure there's a threshold where they just let him walk.

What about trading his rfa rights to the Suns instead?

Rozier couldn't even get us past a lottery protected pick, what makes you think the 14th pick + 'Yabu freakin' couldn't see no minutes over our dearth of big man 'depth,' Sele' will get us the 6th pick, via S&T?

Why would Phoenix do this when they could just pick Garland or Coby White, who are both better long-term point guard prospects and won't demand money for years?
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

I don't get it either.

PHX can draft, sign Rozier themselves, or choose to do both... And it would cost them absolutely nothing.

Does Triboy = Triboy16f? If so, this thread makes a lot of sense.

Or they can give us a top 6 pick for no reason, one which we can waste on Brandon Clarke

This makes no sense on any level.  First of all, free agency doesn't open until after the draft.  So this is already dead in the water before it even gets started.

If they want Rozier, they can just sign him.  He'll likely come cheap after the year he just had, and few teams will be in the market for him.  Most teams already have a starting PG who is better than Rozier, and he just spent all year proving that he's incapable of helping a team off the bench.  Phoenix will be on a very short list of suitors, and they have no incentive to pursue a S&T with Boston.

Also, why would they lose the 6th pick for Rozier when they could instead use it to draft a guard who is better than Rozier?  Darius Garland and Coby White both project to be available.

Lastly, I don't think Tyler Johnson isn't a negative asset.  He'll be a $20M expiring contract, which are frequently very valuable to teams looking for a cap reset button.

Phoenix is dumb, but they aren't this dumb.

If any team drafts Clarke with the 10th pick, or lower is going to regret it... He seems like the prototypical tweeter that never makes it far. Derrick William's comes to mind.

Nope.  Can't do that.

I remember Mike Zarren of the Celts saying he hates that the draft is before free agency.  He would like for it to be switched as it would open the door for more possibilities.
