  • A true Celtic plays with heart.
I think a Tatum/Zion SF/PF pairing would get pushed around.  I just can't see zion guarding AH or AD on the blocks.  I think he is the classic tweener in the barkley role, in a league where one of the few successful tweeners is Dramond Green.  This league is certainly becoming a league of 6'-4"+ PG's, 6'-6" shooting guards, 6'-8"+ SF, 6'-9"+ PF, and 6'-10"+ Centers, all who can switch onto at least 3 positions and shoot the three...Zion will have to play SF I think.  Heck, even durant and Giannis play the 2 alot.

Umm, I'm looking at the stats, but other than the first and second year for KD/Giannis, that just isn't true, unless I'm missing something??... Game has changed, while Zion isn't big enough to guard AD/AH, I just don't see him playing at the 3 either.

I don't think there's a real problem for Zion to play the 4. Zion/Tatum is about as good as a two-way forward duo as you can possibly think of for the future.

No, I don't think you are missing anything. Zion is currently listed at 285lbs; to assume that he can't at least play PF is being short-sighted. Marcus Morris was our starting PF for most of the season and Tatum was supposed to be before the Hayward thing backfired. Horford and AD are both really big for PFs which is why each often plays Center.

A Zion/Tatum forward combo would be absolutely devastating from a potential standpoint.

Can you please list all these PF’s that you think are going to push, the 280 lb or so, Zion around?

  • Let's Go Celtics!
If anything Tatums stock has gone up.

Tatum at best is a floor spacing sf who can go 1 on 1.

Zion is a bruiser pf in the mold of barkley or larry johnson.

Its a match made in heaven for the 2 of them to be on the same team.
I'd certainly watch a lot of them on League Pass.

As someone who doesn't follow College ball, I'm still super skeptical about Zion, though.  People talk about him like he's the best prospect since LeBron.  Really, though?

Wouldn't surprise me to see Tatum averaging 25+ for the Pelicans next season.

Pretty lofty expectations... I dread seeing his eFG and TS % if he takes any more of his patented ill-advised midrange contested long 2's.

My impression is that Tatum would have a more varied offensive diet if he felt that he could be assured of having a high number of touches in any given game.

I think the pull-up midrange shot will always be a feature of his game but I don't think he's the type of player who will fall in love with that to the exclusion of all else.  But if he feels he needs to take his shots when he gets them because he doesn't know when he may get the ball again, he'll take the first shot the opponent gives him.

So he's only going to work on his game if he's assured of shots? Yikes.
2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

When I started  this thread my thought was that Tatum and Zions best future are at 3.Zion could be a dominant 3 but just another guy as a 4. I don’t see Tatum being a star at 4 either.

So does a team like the Knicks who could offer Robinson,Knox and pick 3 be a  better trade partner? I realize money must be found to match salaries.

Just killing time till draft day

I think NOP want Davis the most, as they should.  If they do decide to trade him, I don't see any problem with Tatum playing with Williamson.

There's no question Zion is a 4.

In terms of him being undersized, he's listed at 6'7" 280 lbs. Draymond Green is listed at 6'7" 230 lbs. and toggles between PF and C. He'll be fine.

If by that you mean early Clipper BG then I think you might be on the right track. I definitely need to see him against NBA competition before saying that though

What's crazy about this Zion thing is that if he ends up being a 6'6'' Blake Griffin or Deluxe Julius Randle (who let's remember just got finished averaging 21 pts and 8.7 reb on 52% shooting this year), that will make him a disappointment based on the way he's looked at right now.

What are the chances that he actually meets expectations?
