Who's Js are going to be better?
Ja and JJJ or Jayson and Jaylen?

I’m a little worried now; they do have more Js.
If that was they key to success wheres JaJuan Johnson? ;D

Good point!

Speaking of Js

They also have Josh Jackson on their roster, but he has been in the G League all season

Memphis now sitting at 23-24 and in 8th place out West. As of this morning, that's a comfortable 2.5 games above the 9th place team (San Antonio) in the Western Conference.

https://www.espn.com/nba/standings

I feel like our best hope is an incredible run by New Orleans, or an incredible decline by Memphis (both of which seem unlikely).

I wonder if we can just gave them back their pick this year in exchange for a future unprotected... might be better in terms of roster crunch

Pick is going to be worthless when it is all said and done unless Ainge lucks out in the draft.

Yeah. Also considering our recent inability to turn an influx of 1st rounders into something better (i.e. moving up in the draft, or acquiring a future pick that is more promising), I am not feeling too optimistic.

However, I still will follow the Grizzlies' record obsessively because that's what I do.

Let's all keep in mind that the best player in the league (Antetokounpo) was picked 15th, and another one of the Eastern All-Star starters (Siakam) was picked 27th. Obvioiusly the higher the pick the better, but the 17th pick is far from worthless.

not necessarily.
rondo,
tony allen,
perk,
jefferson,
olynyk,
rozier,
sullinger,
west,
bradley were all outside the lottery or on the fringe of it.

yes, the worse the pick the less likely it pans out. but getting an nba player does happen more than in a blue moon at those spots.

Amazing how bad our luck is with these picks. The Kings decide to not be a dumpster fire the one season we have their pick, than they go back to sucking. The same thing will probably happen with Memphis. Watch lol.

We deserve it after hitting home runs on two Nets lottery picks.

Can't believe I'm intensely rooting for the pick to land at #11.  Although it's early, seems to me one of 11 guys could be guaranteed high level contributor (regardless of how long it takes them to acclimate, etc.)

Those 11 are the obvious big 3:  Wiseman, Ball, Edwards

and:

C. Anthony
Haliburton
Okongwu
Toppin
Hampton
Mannion
Avdija
McDaniels

I'd be excited about any of those and feel good on draft night.  From that list I'd be least excited about Mannion, but what do I know?

If Killian Hayes is a lock to be good then then there are not 11 but 12 guys I'd feel safe and happy about snagging.

So starting at pick 12 or 13 is where it seems like any pick we make will be more of a wait and see feeling rather than an excited feeling.  If we are picking at 12 and Mannion or Hayes are there, I wouldn't mind trading down for a big and another asset...Paul Reed plus asset, Isaiah Steward plus asset, Vernon Carey plus asset, Amar Sylla gamble plus asset, etc...

(Sylla: maybe the one guy outside the top 11 that I would allow myself to feel excited about...along with Reed to a lesser extent--less risk but less excitement in the case of Reed).

In any case, tonight is the night Memphis moves to a 500 record... >:(

Yeah, I'm not going to freak out, but it's too bad we didn't use the SAC/MEM picks in trades when they were at their greatest value (a year or so before their respective drafts). It's impossible to know how good or bad a team will be until they play their season out. I am super-psyched to have Brown and Tatum, though...and honestly, Langford was just a free pick anyway from Tatum.

One of these days we'll get another Rondo-like player from the mid-draft and then we can all chill out. Heck, maybe Time Lord or Langford are already those guys.

What a joke. If we had the Kings pick this year instead of last year, I think there's a great chance it's a Top-7 pick.

Meanwhile, this MEM pick might end up being in the 17-19 range, but you just know they'll suck next season  ::)

It'll just be another Romeo Langford, Grant Williams, or maybe at best Kelly Olynyk and then miss out on another Giannis lol.

Since there’s been a lot of doom and gloom about the pick (and I’ve spread my share) I wanted to say the Pelicans nuked the Grizzlies tonight, 139-111!
