This is where it all unraveled for us. Not that we played great in the first half but we hung in there. But in the 3rd we compounded bad shot selection and turnovers with letting the Bucks run the floor in transition. Basically: bad shot -- Bucks run the floor in transition -- Bucks score. Turnover -- Bucks run the floor in transition -- Bucks score.

I broke the last 6 minutes of the 3rd quarter down minute by disastrous minute. We started off this 6 min stretch with 3 ill-advised 3s on our way to scoring 2 points and the Bucks scored 24. Bucks made 9-10 free throws during that 6 min period as well. We were 0-4 from 3, they were 3-6 with Giannis making 2 of them.

Just goes to show how quickly things can snowball in today's NBA. We need to be able to get stops even when we aren't shooting the ball well. Long 3s that aren't open and miss create transition opportunities for the other team.

But on the positive side it should be really clear to them what they have to fix. And to not let offensive droughts affect our defense. The Bucks did it after Game 1, they were done in by a terrible 3rd quarter but adjusted. We can do it too. We're still 1-1, all to play for, and we have home court.

TP for the comprehensive breakdown. One of the most widespread team collapses I've seen in quite some time.

Hopefully we bounce back for game 3. At home, remembering Hondo and looking to avenge a shocking 3rd quarter should hopefully make for a good performance.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

It shows how quickly things can change from the compounding of some critical moments. I guess that's what they mean when they say "win each moment".

Yeah, this was the perfect example of the snowball effect you see in the league all the time. Shame it happened to us!

Didn't the Bucks go on something crazy like a 24-4 run from the 3rd quarter into the beginning of the 4th?

Yikes...

It was more like 31-4. 74-71 to 105-75 if memory serves (I was fast forwarding by then)

I posted the above not to depress everyone  but to show how really the game hinges on some of those key moments. Lose some of those moments in a row and it snowballs. We went totally away from our game plan in those 6 minutes, started tossing up 3s (we made 3 ill advised 3s in a row from Kyrie, Jaylen and Gordon), turned the ball over after a time out wasting an ATO opportunity and Antetokounmpo hit 2 threes in addition to his usual trips to the line.

Kyrie mentioned this in his post game presser:

Quote
We shot a little too quick tonight,” Kyrie Irving admitted. “Especially some of the shots I took.”

“We’ve just got to find a way to keep our tempo. That’s my job, to go out there and set that example for our team,” Irving said. “They were getting out in transition, they made plays, but there were times, examples in the game where I could have slowed us down and got us into some sets we’ve gone to and attacked the switches.”

“They did a great job of switching tonight, forcing me left,” he said. “Getting to the paint wasn’t hard. It’s just getting in there and making the right decisions. And the way I started off the game as well, of just getting downhill, just set an example for my teammates the way we want to play, I just didn’t put my stamp on that. So I think that the rest of the tempo of the game, they did a great job controlling it.”

https://www.masslive.com/celtics/2019/05/boston-celtics-vs-milwaukee-bucks-bad-celtics-offense-leads-to-worse-defense-and-bucks-took-full-advantage.html

But it also means it's all fixable. Just need to stick to our game plan even when the shots aren't falling, and not to let poor offense lead to bad defense. I doubt Milwaukee will shoot 20-47 from 3 again, and if they do for the next 3 or 4 games well they probably deserve to win the series  :police:

Good job to OP TP for the breakdown. Most alarming takeaway from this is Brad only called one timeout in the midst of that horrible stretch. I could see the Cs were playing at a very horrible and uncomfortable pace. If I could see it Brad should have seen it and addressed it. Kyrie admits it after tge game perhaps he needed Brad to address it during the game.

That run called for multiple timeouts and Brad failed to call them. Coaching failure.

The good news is that the reffing will likely be favourable to us in game 3, Scott Foster is officiating the game and he tends to favour the home team in the playoffs.

Normally, whoever let that happen should be fired immediately. You do not allow an 8-2 run, let alone a 28-2 run.

you would fire the entire team? timeouts were called but to no effect, and callting a TO is not a guarantee that something will change
