Lebron Passes Dirk on Scoring List, Now #6

Lebron James is the #6 on the all time NBA scoring list and sits just 217 points behind Wilt Chamberlain, for #5. He's also only 1090 points behind Jordan so, in all liklihood, James will finish the season 4th all time in scoring.

He's 2441 points behind Kobe at #3 so I would expect Lebron to overtake him next year.

He's 5723 points behind Karl Malone and 7185 behind Kareem. At the pace Lebron is going, Malone seems very gettable. Scoring a modest 1600 points a season (a mark which would be the lowest of Lebron's career) for the next 4 seasons would be 6400 points.

That would make him 37, at the end of that season, which is old. But Malone scored 1667 points at age 39 and he might, strangely, be the best physical comp for Lebron. I also think he's more likely to score in the 1800-1900 range for the next two seasons which would make catching Malone even easier.

I truly believe James will try to play long enough to take the court with his son.  Obviously his son may not be good enough, but I think James wants the chance to play with his kid.  To do that, he will eclipse Kareem fairly easily barring any significant injuries.

Unless LeBron suffers a career altering injury I definitely think Kareem is within reach for him.  I'll actually be surprised if he doesn't pass Kareem.

Barring major injury he'll catch Kareem if he wants to. He has enough years ahead of him to do it.

I think he has another 2 seasons of MVP caliber play in him. After that maybe 2-3 seasons of all star caliber play. After that... How long does he want to hang around. I don't know if he wants to do that, but as I mentioned I think he wants to try to play with his son and as such, health permitting, I think he sticks around long enough to make that happen (or until it becomes clear that his son may not make it).

This is an article related to this. If the league changes the rules and he can come out right out of high school I could definitely still see Lebron being a good player at 37-38. If he is a bit slower and needs to do two years of college I am not sure Lebron would like sticking around at age 39 or 40 as a fading star. Other question, would he go back to cleveland?

Even at 39 I’d wager LeBron would still get voted into the ASG over Brandon Ingram.

He’s gonna get the fan vote as long as James appears on the back of a Laker uniform.

I think he would go wherever his son was drafted to finish out his career.  If it is Cleveland, it is Cleveland.

be good for those cities. I actually think he will retire a Cav, even if it is just a one day contract
