name a team who has had a crazier year than the 17-18 Celtics..

May 2017: The Celtics win the draft lottery and get the first overall pick for the 1st time since 1950.

June 2017: The Celtics trade out of the #1 slot. people go crazy. Boston still ends up with perhaps the best player in the draft.

July 2017: Celtics sign Hayward, the best free agent available, who Stevens coached in college.
                Celtics trade their longest tenured Celtic in Bradley for Marcus Morris.

August 2017: Celtics trade their star player and MVP candidate Isaiah Thomas and the last of the BKN picks for a HOF'er yet to enter his prime in Kyrie Irving.

October 2017: Gordon Hayward, fresh of signing a max contract, breaks his leg in one of the most gruesome injuries to ever ben televised. out for the year.

November 2017-April 2018: After being demoralized by the Hayward injury, The Celtics ban together and win 53 games in the regular season, earning the 2 seed.

April 2018: Celtics demoralized once again when it's announced Kyrie Irving is out for the year.
                  Seems the Celtics draw the short end of the stick and end up facing the up and      coming Bucks in the first round. Take them down in an exciting 7 game series.

May 2018: Celtics shock the world and are up 3 games to nothing against perhaps the hottest team since the all star break.

Seriously..what is that?? Reality really is stranger than fiction. I'm sure not even the greatest minds in fiction could have come up with such a story arc.

The only team I can think of that went through this many changes in just a year was the 07-08 Celtics, but their story didn't have nearly as much ups and downs.

Plus the win streak, Al and Kyrie in the All-Star game, injuries to Smart and Theis, Aron Baynes playing defense like prime Perk without the nastiness,  the transformation into a #1 defense, etc.

The other team that had a roller-coaster this year was Cleveland, but they’ve maintained one enormous constant and their season hasn’t been nearly as fun.

1987 Celtics

Death of Len Bias.

Walton and Wedman, two main pieces of their championship team the season prior, barely play.

Sweep Jordan in the first round.

Win in 7 games vs the Bucks in the ECSF.

Win in 7 games vs the Pistons in the ECF. A series that included Parish dropping Laimbeer, Bird throwing a ball at Laimbeer, and Bird steals the ball.

After Game 7 vs Detroit is when Rodman and Thomas said Bird was overrated because he was white. This caused a ton of controversy and media attention, that led up to a news conference involving both Bird and Thomas just prior to the finals.

Lose in 6 games vs the Lakers, which were one of the greatest teams ever. That was were Magic hit the hook in game 4. McHale played with a fractured foot, Parish was dealing with a badly sprained ankle, Ainge had a deep thigh bruise, and I believe Bird's back with tightening up.

We even had the Home of the Brave video made, which is basically unprecedented for a team that didn't win a title. Great team, but it was even greater was watching that team continue to fight round after round despite all the injuries.
