The Boston Celtics planned to select Larry Nance Jr. with the No. 28 pick in the 2015 draft.

Nance was drafted by the Lakers one slot ahead of the Celtics at No. 27.

The Celtics instead selected R.J. Hunter at No. 28, who was waived after just one season as they ran out of roster spots.

Nance averages 8.9 pts and 6 rebounds in 22 minutes per game

One of my favorite non-starters in the league, now I can understand why I like him as much.
He will be an elite backup energy big. Versatile, funny, great work ethic and pedigree.

You are understating how big of a "miss" this was.  Nance is s cerebral player and perfect M.O. for Ainge.  Oh well...

Not nearly as big as a miss as not having Kuzma on the radar.

Kuzma is off topic.
We had a 1st or 3rd pick.
You had him that high?
Then why this talk at all.

Not nearly as big a miss as selecting Kelly over Giannis. :P

Yeah, it's too bad. Nance would've been a really good fit and Hunter isn't even in the league anymore, is he?

How can it be a "miss" if we couldn't pick Nance? We didn't choose Hunter over him. Nance wasn't available.

If anything (assuming the stories are true) this affirms Danny's judgment.

Now, you could argue that Nance was a "miss" relative to Rozier, because both players were on the board and we chose Rozier.

Is there a broad sense that we'd rather have Nance over TR?

This thread went from "interesting 2015 draft tidbit" to "Fire the bad drafter, Danny Ainge"

  • A true Celtic plays with heart.
Nance could've definitely been an awesome guy. I think that's why they brought in Theis, who literally does everything that Nance intended to.

Yeah, I mean, how many people would be upset if we drafted Theis at 28 (instead of Hunter) and we finally brought him over this year?

Nance is a nice player, but wouldn’t make or break our roster.
