Not just 2 games. Those are his best games but he’s been improving steadily through the year. He’s up to 37% from 3 for the year - above league average - and he shoots them above the break, off the catch and off the dribble. He’s a plus rebounder all year, a good defender and energy player. If the ballhandling and confidence stick, he’s going to be a very nice player - and why wouldn’t they

I was down on him at the start of the year but increasingly impressed. In a year he should be a starting caliber guard.
disagree.

gets lost off ball, cant get through screens, and overplays passing lanes.

If he keeps the scoring up, then Im all good with it. 0 problem.

On balance, he is clearly a good defender. Stays in front of his man when he’s supposed to, ices when he’s supposed to. What you might be seeing is when he lets a man go by to the sideline - that is by design, he’s doing his job. I rarely see his man just get by him and to the hole. And the tone he sets by his energy is infectious and disruptive. He doesn’t get through screens like Marcus , but nobody does. He doesn’t stick to screens like KI.

We could talk eye test all day. What do the stats say?  This was posted upthread, but I’ll repeat it:

Marcus Smart
Steals Per 36: 1.4
Defensive RPM: +0.48 (20th among PG)
Defensive Rating: 103
Defensive Box Plus / Minus: +1.5
Defensive Win Shares Per 48: +2.0

Terry Rozier
Steals Per 36: 1.6
Defensive RPM: +1.14 (6th among PG)
Defensive Rating: 101
Defensive Box Plus / Minus: +1.3
Defensive Win Shares: +1.8
Defensive stats suck
