Well didn't the Suns players admit that after he was on a hot scorching start, they just let him keep scoring until he hit 70?

Suns coach Earl Watson utilized multiple timeouts and intentionally fouled late in the fourth quarter, which aided Booker's quest for 70 points. While fans at TD Garden embraced his scoring outburst and cheered -- particularly with the Celtics out front by double digits -- Boston players seemed less than enthusiastic about the way the Suns ran up Booker's scoring total.

The Suns called two timeouts in the final 44 seconds, both while trailing by double figures, and committed two fouls in that same span in order to generate extra shots for Booker, who scored five points during that stretch to push him to 70 points. Booker might have pushed his total even higher but missed two shots in the closing seconds.

Watson was unapologetic about the way he approached the final minutes.

"It's basketball," he said. "I'm not coming to any arena just happy to be there, trying to be liked. I don't care about being liked. I really don't care, to be honest with you. We're coming in here, we're trying to build something with this young group. If people don't like us, why we build it, so what? Do something about it. Simple as that.

"It's about letting our kids be great. You got a problem with that? Do something. Simple as that."

And guess what? They lost the game, so who cares how much points/assists you rack up... Losing effort.

Oh yeah, and Watson got fired... So there's that...

At the end of the day, it's all about the W.

Game was a blowout never in doubt. I remember thinking wow they just force feeding this guy what an empty 50 pts, 60pts....70 pts.

Was anyone playing defense after he dropped the first 40?

His last 20-30 points felt like they were just playing at the YMCA goofing off.

game was not taken seriously after it became apparent the Suns were completely over matched .

Played like a pick up game.

To add to what others said, towards the end of the game, even though they were headed for a certain loss, the Suns kept fouling Celtic players in order to stop the clock and preserve possessions, in which they would immediately give Booker the ball to try to score.  The Cs didn't want to foul (because they wanted the clock to run) so they had to guard him very loosely.   Thus Booker was able to tack on a bunch of slop time scores at the end.

The whole thing was an embarrassing joke and by that I don't mean I was embarrassed by the Celtics defense.  It was embarrassing to watch the Suns, which is a franchise which has some great basketball history, stoop to such embarrassing tactics to try to create a dubious 'achievement'.

Watson came off like a real jerk with those comments. I remember watching the game live and was perplexed as to why a coach would be doing that. It’s fathomable if it happened in Phoenix, in front of the home crowd. Give the fans a little treat while getting blown out. But in someone else’s arena. I don’t get it.

Celtics took the high road and let it happen. I would have hard fouled him after timeouts and intentional fouls just to keep tallying points.

As much as I can’t stand Kerr, at least he didn’t put Klay in there when he had 60 after 3. Klay could have went for 85 if they force fed him every possession like that for another 12 minutes.
