Yeah, but in terms of leading a team, IT stands taller.
Kyrie hasn't proven he can be an alpha that can lead a team to the ECF and beyond. IT has.
But what about before IT came to the Celtics? He didn't really light the world on fire until his first full year here. He does have that winning mentality, but it's hard to put everything down on two seasons. And age comes into the factor. When you hit your mid 20's things start to click differently. Very few players really mature until after 25. Look a Jordan, until he grew up and decided to trust his teamates, he didn't win. And how much of last year was Horford?
So with Irving he had two years with out Lebron and he was young and was looking at getting his. Yes he didn't excel when Lerbon didn't play, but it could be part of him not trusting his teammates, and out side of Love, who can get buckets on a regular bases? Plus there was no one making him responsible for defense.
So you can keep in mind Irving is getting to the age were IT learned to lead. And I'm not going to say he's going to be that alpha leader, he's just getting to the age were he can really become one.
I also don't think he's necessarily be 100% alpha. He can do it on the floor and lead the charge and take over games, but I'm not sure about lockeroom stuff and holding guys responsible. Looking at this team, I actually see a collective of mini Alphas.
Horford and Hayward, the lockeroom leaders
Smart and Horford the defensive leaders. Brown and Baynes co-leaders
Smart and Brown young guy leaders
Irving and Hayward the offensive leaders
I think this is what Irving was talking about when he said he wanted to play for Boston. It wasn't one guy and their way. This is more of a team he's coming too than there was one the Cavs were it was one guys way and thats it.
So to say Irving hasn't lead anything, isn't really fare. At times he was the best player on the floor and kept LEbron from going home. But it's also fare to say he wont be that alpha, some guys just aren't, but on this team it might be okay if he isn't were I see Hayward and Horford being more leaders, but Irving running the offense. If that makes sense.
