I usually stay pretty up to date on salary cap stuff, but someone help me out.
By what rule can Golden State re-sign Durant now?
They need to maintain bird rights and therefore capholds on Curry and Iggy to sign them. They then have close to 100 million committed to the cap.
For Durant to re-sign with GSW, he has to decline his player option and become a full UFA. He just signed there 1 year ago via capspace/UFA, so there was no transfer of bird rights, etc. So what changed, and what exception is there to now allow GSW to re-sign a full UFA with only 1 year tenure with the team?
Edit: Perhaps it is Non-Bird rights, so 120% maximum raise from last year to this year?
