It's hilarious that some folks are panicked about two of the worst teams trading the players that led their respective teams to the worst records in basketball might make each other better. Seems like it will have marginal impact on actual winning for next year....

This is everything right here. They were the best players on the two worst teams in the league last year and they just got swapped for each other.  Its a lateral move for both sides. Neither gets better this year, as of right now.

More proof that being the GM of the LA Lakers is the easiest job in professional sports.  Clear cap-space in advance of expiring stars and eventually they will come.   The amazing thing here is that LAL just sacrificed a #2 pick in the draft for cap-space.  Had the C's done that they'd be crucified and rightly so because there would be no assurance that they'd be able to sign anyone.  The Lakers, however, as bad as they are, know that they will be able to sign big name FAs.  Nothing to lose for LAL -- the only franchise that can suck and still be on every FAs wish list.    That said, I don't believe that either team made a move that clearly leads them out of the bottom 3-8 (or so) next year.  Trading for PG would probably assure that the Lakers are out of the 2-5 range though.

An aside: Do the #27 and the #28 in the draft really have much value? Basically 2nd rounders with 1st round guarantees.

This is a good trade for the Nets, and they should have done something similar a few years ago instead of trying not to lose so the Celtics dont get a high draft pick.

This is a win for both the Celtics and the Nets. The Nets get slightly worse this year, but better in the long run.

Yeah this is how I see it. A win for us and the Nets. I also am not sure of how much LA improves, they are certainly still in the lottery. A front court of Lopez and Randle is hardly a defensive monster.

LA wins too by clearing space which is all LA really ever needs to do to build a contender.    The good news for the Cs is that I don't think Magic gives a rats behind where the Lakers finish this year.  Lakers give up the 2018. pick no matter what. His goal is to put them in position to sign multiple max players next year.  He hates the Cs but no way will he add salary just to win a few extra games.  For him I think it's tunnel vision to next off-season

Yeah my mind just automatically closed itself from thinking about the Lakers.

Oh sure, it's about clearing cap for next summer, I just mean this year because of the pick. I don't know if they get worse or better. It's still hard to name that many teams worse than them. Brooklyn, Suns, maybe Orlando this year?
