We won't be taking a PG with our pick. That means IT will be extended, and this is the core DA wants to win with?

Thought?

Would be my guess.  Also think it means Bradley may be in line for a nice big contract if he doesn't get moved this summer.

Or you could look at it the other way, Danny keeps acquiring potential high level draft picks because he wants to build around them and thus has no need to pay veterans that don't fit those young player timelines unless they sign for reasonable and/or short term deals.  Horford will be gone by the time the young players are ready, Thomas and/or Bradley would not be if they are re-signed next summer.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

I would say it's at jeopardy more than ever. Consider the reasons for trading down:

-Saves cap space with a lower draft pick
-Obtains additional future draft assets
-Drafting an equally good young player

So this leads to two scenarios

1) Drafting the player from this draft and future drafts to build for the 2020s decade. Basically punting on the rest of the next 3 years, limiting Isaiah's future value as he gets older.
2) Packaging assets for a Unibrow or Butler or George (slightly below their market value)... & going after Hayward or Griffin (at max level money). Considering the cap crunch, this would almost definitely mean it's IT4's last season unless he wants to stay at $8mil/year.

Either way, i see no sign that it's an investment in Isaiah long-term

The only way this could happen is if the package of assets is traded for a very very good player on his rookie-deal. If it turns out that the package is for Porzingis or Towns, then I can see the Celtics having the space to give Isaiah a long-term deal at the price point he wants.

Even at the end of the game, we lined up in different formation that he hadn't seen and he called out our play before I got the ball. I heard him calling it out. -John Wall on Brad Stevens

If Ainge goes into "win now" mode..ie...trading for Paul George etc, my guess is all bets are off.

Two max's added to Horford changes the Celtic's cap landscape.

If he goes with "win later" why wouldn't Thomas stay?

Somebody started a thread just last week suggesting Danny gave a promise to Fultz, that's why he wasn't working out for any other teams.

Can never read too much into the tea leaves here.

I think it greatly increases the chances that Isaiah will be on the Celtics past 2018, but it doesn't lock anything in of course.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.
