Trying to nail the "all star steal" in the later rounds of the draft.. heck, just find me a "Malcolm Brogden" and i'll be satisfied

It's pretty much impossible, but my logic to find these type of players
-Junior or Senior
-Steadily improved each year of his college career
-Was a primary scoring/playmaking option for his school
-Developed a new standout skill during his college years
-Successful Team
-NBA size and especially strength

The primary guy in this year's draft that fits this mold for me is Dillon Brooks
-Junior or Senior
Entering his Senior year
-Steadily improved each year of his college career
Increased his per-40 scoring from 16.2, 20.4, 25.5 each year.
-Was a primary scoring/playmaking option for his school
See above
-Developed a new standout skill during his college years
3pt% increased steadily each year, ending at over 40% on 6 attempts
-Successful Team
Oregon was pac12 regular season champ and made the Final Four
-NBA size and especially strength
6'6 and 220lbs. Built like a Tank

That's my pick. who's yours?
6 3pt attempts all season isn't impressive.
Excuse me, but 40 percent of 6 is 2.4.  I am curious how he made that number of 3 point shots.

I think those stats are correct on Brooks, great/clutch shooter, the main weakness with him is he is a below average athlete with a negative wingspan...there has been plenty of great players with one of those weaknesses but not both especially as a wing.
Thank you, but my questions was how anyone could make 2.4 shots?

It's a average over the course of a season. If he played 5 games and shot 6 threes per game he could make 2,2,2,3,3 and that would average to 2.4 per game.

The post hwangjini was originally responding to said "6 3pt attempts all season".  Hwangjini was asking how he could interpret the original post as "6 3pt attempts all season" when that would mean that he shot 2.4/6 for his season totals (which is clearly impossible)
I'm bitter.

I like your logic but to me Brooks isn't a great pick if your looking for a player late in the draft who shocks everyone and becomes an allstar. I think this player has to have average to elite physical tools (particularity length) and athletic ability to even be considered. Looking at the most recent past examples coming out of college. Butler had average size for a wing and was an above average to elite athlete,  Draymond is a tough example because he was a strange prospect in that he had below average PF measurement but great SF measurements. Athletically he wasnt elite but was strong and moved well laterally. Other examples would be Milsap, Jordan, Boozer and Arenas.

Candidates in this draft. Based off of Draft express's mock

Future Potential Star

Bam Adebayo, raw but he has the length and athletic ability to be an elite center

Thomas Bryant, on paper he is everything you want in a modern NBA center elite length 7'6" wingspan and he has shown an outside touch. Just needs to be better engaged on defense and get stronger.

Dwayne Bacon, he has great physical tools at SG standing 6'6 22lbs with a 6' 10" wingspan. If Bacon can play within a team and improve his outside shot he really has potential to become a good starting SG or even more.

Swanigan, great length and strength. Likely over matched by quickness at PF but in the new NBA he can likely use his 7'3 wingspan and strong frame to play center despite being 6'9. His ability to stretch the court and rebound should be assets to the team that drafts him.

I like Swanigan offensively, but I'm not sure how he'll consistently see court time because he's slow even for opposing centers these days.

Nigel Hayes from Wisconsin is my pick

TP, beat me to it.  Love that guy and I'd take him in the first round if I could with, say, the 28th pick.

He may well go undrafted.  Probably should've left after his Junior year.

If I had to guess, Ainge is watching clips of Donovan Mitchell right now.

The worst statistical year of his career to that point?  Probably not the best move, lol ;D. I know that the Celtics brought him in for a workout last year, and I was honestly hoping that they would have convinced him to stay in the draft so that we could have taken him with one of our second rounders, primarily because I was concerned that he would have a bounce back senior season, which is what happened.  Doh! ;D

And ahh, yes, Donovan Mitchell, yet another combo guard from Louisville.  Great (sarcasm) ::).

Idk about Hayes. Looks like his shooting percentages increased some, but still underwhelming offensively. Tough fit for current NBA. Gotta jack 3s and maybe play some defense. If the mood strikes.. :D

He's really a power three, if that makes any sense, but he's also an excellent defender with the quickness to guard shooting guards and yet the length, with a 7'3" wingspan :o, to bother almost anyone.  He's also a great passer, might be the best post player in the draft, can get to the line at will, and is a terrific go-to guy down the stretch of games who has also taken and made many a big shot in his career.  Great work ethic and character, too.  Well, I like him, anyway, lol ;D.

Love that guy, and he's already improved his jump shot, especially from deep, by a significant margin.  Might be the best person in the draft, as well.  I'd take him at 16 if we could get Chicago's picks.

TP, at the very least Hayes will be an elite defender who creates matchup problems and hopefully he develops enough skill to exploit those matchup problems.
2019 historical draft.  Pick 12

Tim Duncan, Oscar Robertson, Elgin Baylor, Scottie Pippen, Willis Reed, Mitch Richmond, Sam Jones, Dan Majerle, Bob Cousy, Rasheed Wallace, Shawn Kemp, Marcus Camby

Devin Robinson from FLA for me is that boom or bust type of guy, but the boom could be big.

Physical profile:

6'8"

7'1" wingspan

8'10" st reach

35.5 no step

41.5 max vert (98th percentile ever0

3.2  % body fat (7th lowest on record)

This from Givony after Robinson propelled Gators in NCAAs to advance farther than expected:

Quote
Devin Robinson is coming off a superb weekend, posting 38 points and 18 rebounds in 64 minutes, while making 4/9 3-point attempts to help Florida advance to Madison Square Garden. He has a much bigger challenge on his hands in the form of long-armed forwards Nigel Hayes and Vitto Brown, as well as a stalwart interior presence in Ethan Happ. Consistency hasn't been the theme of Robinson's career, to say the least, so it will be interesting to see how productive he can be in arguably the biggest stage he's ever played on. Scouts are enamored with his size, length, frame, athleticism and the sparks he demonstrates as a shooter and defender. With that said, his fundamentals, feel for the game, and intensity have always been dragging behind his pure talent level, and talent evaluators will want to get a better gauge on whether he's actually turning the corner now that he's turned 22 years old, or if last weekend's outburst was a flash in the pan and a product of his physical superiority. He's 22 and a junior. Only averaged 11/6 but 39% from 3.

Maybe a stretch at#37, especially with some bigs that we could get lucky and get (Bryant, Motley, Bell, Swanigan, Peters, Tony Bradley).

Like him with one of our 53 or 56.

I'd say that he's already got it ;), but his having a great work ethic doesn't exactly hurt him in my eyes, either ;) :).

Me thinks that the title of the thread would be better served to include "picks" instead of "pick," btw.  The second round and possible undrafted pool this year are loaded, imo.
