Beware of what?   He might perform close to where he was drafted?

I love his game but I think it helps to be honest to where he is as a player.   He is impactful and makes winning plays.   I don't think he has a true position but he is more of a PG than anything.   He had a good shooting night for him last night but truth is he is paid to play basketball and ought to work on his shot so he is shooting well every night.

I don't think his draft position matters at this point. He's a valuable member of this team. He plays hard and makes winning defensive plays. He didn't choose himself- the Celtics chose him.

Reminds me of Tyson Chandler criticism. Just because he was drafted highly doesn't mean he still can't be a productive player, even if he's not a perennial all star.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

I look at the 2014 draft and yeah.. Smart is better then pretty much the vast majority of the players in that class.

Can someone even name more then 1 or 2 players who are better then Smart that went after 6?  A couple you could debate but not really.

Of course he's a productive player - we all know that, he's been that since his rookie year.

But he's still a productive player with a lot of flaws and limitations, and it's hard for me to be convinced that he'll ever be anything but that.

We can't even decisively say that Smart is better then Elfrid Payton, who was taken significantly later then him in the draft.

Still love the guy for how he plays, but roster spots are important - whether he'll be able to prove he is worthy of one moving forward (once his rookie deal expires) is something we'll need to wait and see on.

Draft numbers are just that, Marcus has been an integral part of Celtics rise each year
His flexibility in guarding multiple positions his 4th quarter heroics,Marcus, Crowder and Avery.
Marcus at 23 has gotten better each year  as a point guard,he repaired his foul shot mid season and is hitting 41% from corners. His value jumps when playing a team like the Cavs, his strength and offensive rebounding make him invaluable in this series.
Where he was drafted is meaningless
He closes 4th quarters and controls the 2nd unit and is one of the anchors of the perimeter defense that allows the Celts to hide Isaiah.

Can you imagine a Laker getting a rebound on his back, Jaylen has  watched Marcus rip rebounds over the back of bigger men, Jaylen has watched him power over and under screens.
Smart holds himself to high standards as he also holds Jaylen.
Jaylen and Rozier are lucky to have a young Celtic that plays right and gives his all at both ends of court to emulate.
Nice steal Terry.
