Smart is looking a little pudgy. I think he would be even more effective out on the perimeter if he started tracking his macro-nutrient breakdown and caloric intake to cut out some of that baby fat.

After reading about what Sully was consuming and what he was saying in regards to diet, I'm convinced that the Celtics nutrition staff has no idea what the they're doing. Danny Ainge, if you are reading this, drop me a note in my DMs. I'll have the whole squad looking like Greek Gods in 1 month or less, especially with the amount of cardio these guys do.
You're a nutritionist? Wow

I am not a nutritionist, but diet and maintaining a lean & powerful physique are my hobbies. I also play basketball and guitar.

Id say this was true if it werent for Sully also gaining weight in Toronto.

i also wondered if that head knock  had a concussive effect and smart wasn't talking

This is a more likely theory for his recent struggles. When he hit his head, I was 100% sure that he was concussed--only question moderate or severe.

I'm not sure Smart is at his optimal weight right now, but it seems a little extreme to call him "overweight." He doesn't seem to have stamina issues like Sully always did.

to be honest i noticed the same thing, but he has been off the charts these playoffs, third best player by a landslide.

He only spent a an injured half season there, plus that doesn't consider the language Sully was using when he was supposedly losing all that weight:

Quote
“My genetics aren’t the same as your genetics. Some people can drop 10 pounds in a week. Some can drop 10 pounds in three weeks. My body doesn’t work like that."

Actually, Jarred, it is as simple as math: Caloric Maintenance level + Caloric Deficit = Weight loss.

Quote
“Even though the stuff is good stuff, healthy stuff, my body doesn’t react to it the way an Avery Bradley or a James Young does.”

Young man, I don't care if you're eating nothing but grilled chicken, you can still go over your caloric maintenance level and gain weight.

He also made comments about fruit that I don't feel like looking up, implying that fruit was something to fill up on or something to that effect, when fruit should be a portioned out cheat meal, in my opinion.

I think this is speculation.  He is still playing 30+ min and I am assuming Brad sees no noticeable drop off in endurance.

I think that his problems are all mental.

It has to be difficult to ask him to defend small forwards, and even some power forwards, and loose 15 pounds too.

I guess he could loose 10 pounds, by simply improving his diet, and it not effect too much. I'm sure he's eating like any 22 year old.

Posted multiple times at the start of the season that Marcus looked legit fat.  Doesn't look as fat to me now but that may be because I've gotten used to fat Marcus?

Anyway, probably wouldn't make that much of a difference anyway.  Could get a little faster but it isn't going to help his skill level, which is below par in every way on offense.

Meh Ive heard medical professionals say metabolism is a factor but Im not qualified to discuss that. But the fact remains that its not only here in Boston that people have gained weight. To say that it is the staff's fault and you would be better is kinda unfair.
