IMO the fact that Ainge was NOT willing to take theoretically available good deals on players who would have tied up salary (Noel, Nurkic) is a pretty good indicator that something very exciting may be happening this summer.

Part of the problem is that teams are leery of making deals with Ainge because they end up looking bad and he fleeces them. No one wants to be the guy that gives Ainge a guy drafted late in the 2nd round and he ends up a 2 time All Star....oh wait.

There are no guarantees, obviously, but clearly the organization thinks that we at least have a shot at something big.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned is that Ainge might simply have wanted to keep maximum flexibility at the trade deadline to land an actual star.

Losing the Zeller/Amir expirings and the lesser picks/prospects would have made that process more difficult or expensive.

And Ibaka and Nurkic were both traded well before the deadline.
